Dinner Date in the Slope

ghenet is really nice too (and romantic) if you're into GREAT ethiopian food.
-
Was just at Belleville on Sunday in the new loungey area. While a big group of people wasn't exaclty romantic, we loved our food. I had mussels and others had sandies.
-
Primo Atto! The food is amazing, prices are reasonable and the service is pretty much impeccable. Only downside is that the decor/music is a little cheesy, but whatever.
-

Only thing about Primo Atto is they can be pretty dead in there, which can be awkward if you can't handle dead silence and you are both not big talkers. Not that they don't need the patronage! The lamb Voodoo got there is still stuck in my mind. I must go back, soon. -
I thought I would love Applewood, but the food is really rich and I had an upset stomach afterwards. I rarely eat out, though, so that could be why... just something to keep in mind. Could just have been me, though.

Coco Roco?!! And have people's butts in your face while they wait for a table? And wait? And screaming kids? NO WAY!!!!
Liked the other suggestions though.. -

Really? I've never had those problems. But we don't go on Fri/Sat night very often. Is it more crowded then? I've only seen kids, and not often still, at brunch. I'm not much into all the italian places and was trying to think of affordable places that aren't too cramped.
Liked the other suggestions though.. -

Back when Hassan was bartending at Moutarde, I used to bring my dates by for him to give a bartender's vetting to. Now he's not there, but my boyfriend and I have been together 5 years.
All of which is to say, the community IS powerful. -

If they go on a Friday or Saturday night they should be fine with other people there. -

Cheesy decor? -
The decor is a little fake is all. Columns from Italian Villas or somethink..or are they Greek or whatever. The chairs are confortable and the lighting is fine. Really no cheesy.

I'm glad there are so many good places and suggestions here--and I hate to be negative (heh heh) but ...last time we took out from CocoRoco there they shorted us 2 sides and we didn't get any sauces!@The sauces are what make it!
Can't wait to check out Canaille.
Brook Vin--AWESOME!! Great bar staff and they serve their own infused vodkas too:)
Bar Tano--lovely and the lighting is just right. -

i agree Mama.. a date place is nicer if there is a "buzz" in the room and the feeling other people are already having a good time. If most tables are empty it just doesn't give that feeling.
Iate there on sat. night and there was one table for 10 and the management was having trouble keeping up and we had 6 people and there was one other couple. The place needs how to come up to speed in service IF they do catch on and have a full or at least fuller house. We waited and hour and a half for entrees to arrive.. not acceptable. -
Convivium is awful - they have no idea what customer service is.
Had a very nice dinner at Tempo the other night - it's very pretty/romantic, tables are not close together and the food was great. -
Two much "buzz" can also be a problem. I had dinner tonight with Mrs. Booklaw and two friends at Char No. 4 on Smith St.
Everything about the restaurant was wonderful: the food, the booze (ah! the booze!) and the service.
BUT, the place was so noisy that we could not hear one another, even though we were seated at a reasonably small booth. We could each lean to our side to hear the person next to us, but it was utterly impossible to hear the folks on the other side of the table. -
Booklaw.. I agree.. That level of noise and proximity doesn't work for me in a restaurant no matter how good the food and service is. I had dinner with a friend at Magnolia's tonight. They were still on the roll back to 2000 prices. Good meal.. one shared crab cakes and two mains and 2 glasses of wine... $30 with the generous tip. It was kind of half full, nice bar crowd and a nice evening.

check out either CafeTapeo or black sheep both are great for a date

For reals? I've been to Convivium twice and found the service to be way above average both times. I really like that place. Wish I lived closer to it.

For some reason I've never been to Tempo yet. I've gotta get there soon. -
I have to underline Shinybeast's thought there. I have eaten at Convivium at least 20 times and every time found the service exceptional, which for me means attentive but not intrusive. It is really a place to eat meat or perhaps fish and is shy on vegetables but if what they offer is what you want to eat it is a great choice..... expensive side though.
-
convivium is easily my favorite restaurant in the slope. i've never had a problem with poor service. I dont like too much attention when I'm out dining though.
-
I've yet to go, but Convivium has been highly recommended to me as an outstanding romantic date destination.
