That 7th ave/Park Shoe Repair shop pissed me off — Brooklynian

That 7th ave/Park Shoe Repair shop pissed me off

Is this the "Don't ever go there!!" neighborhood shoe repair shop, and I just didn't know any better and got duped?? Does anyone else know another shoe repair shop that is NOT the one on the smallesh block on the triangle intersection of park/7th/flatbush?

They basically ruined two pairs of shoes that I had... made them worse than they were when I came in, didn't clean them (after doing the "big job"), because apparently buffing them up is an extra charge (isn't it part of the service to have clean shoes cleaned up upon pick up, especially after they fix them??). And they weren't even finished with them--picked them up today on a rush to work (tuesday) after being promised they'd be finished last thursday--with that, i got the "We told you that?" response.

Also, how much is it to get a pair of shoes resoled? I'm curious to know what replies I'll get, because I know the guy ripped me off. How much should it be for this service.

With all that said, left in hurry and angry, with very poorly tended shoes.

Is the place across the street next to the natural land any better? I want to find a good place in the area that won't dick me over and over charge me like this place did.

I used to like this place and get my clothes dry cleaned there...one of those places you feel like your secretly the person's favorite customer. You nod at him, he nods at you, I respect you, you respect me.

But I went once to get a sport coat altered and they kind of screwed it up, plus it was like $60 from what I remember. Never been back.
  • I recommend the guys near Natural Land. Been there a bunch of times and were always prompt, nice and very reasonable.
  • I took 2 brand new pair of dress shoes in there a few years ago, for half soles and heels. The heels starting coming off after two weeks.
When I went back to get them repaired and complain, they told me it was because I stepped down hard when I walked.
I mentioned to them that I had a pair done the same way by a cobbler on Columbus near 84th that had lasted 4 years, without any problem.
Then they tried to charge me for the repair (which fell off a few days later anyway).
Whenever I walk by and see someone going in, I always tell them to go somewhere else instead.
  • i've used both-- the one by natural land is good and much more reasonable than the one across the street.
  • There's a somewhat new shoe repair place on Flatbush Ave. between Prospect and St. Mark's. I haven't tried it, but it's worth a shot.

I don't know if they're the nicest guys on earth, but I've been using them for years and can count on them to do a solid job every time.

Why do these shops have new shoes on racks? Does anyone ever buy shoes at a shoe repair store? I've always found that to be very odd.
