New Place on Dekalb — Brooklynian

New Place on Dekalb

I saw a new place on Dekalb called Brooklyn Public. Anyone know what type of place this is? It is right where the bus stops on Vanderbilt/Dekalb.

  • It's Brooklyn Public House -- a new bar/restaurant. Was just there tonight for the first time. Only had a beer, though.

  • I like Brooklyn Public House. It's relaxed and comfy but not pretentious or douchey, which I was worried about when it first opened. I live around the corner and basically consider it my local, a much needed option from Alibi, which I don't mind, but not every day.

Are you saying that you drink every day? :o
  • Had a beer and some burgers there the other night, for table service. Really packed for an early weekday night. good vibe. Got too loud to have a conversation, fwiw. There didn't seem to be enough waitstaff.

I'll be back, though probably just to sit at the bar.
  • The spot is nice enough, but who has the balls to serve $7 beers in this economy? And no happy hour? Gimme a break.
  • I think my Coney Island Lager has been $5.50 every time I've gone. What are you ordering that's $7?
  • Yeah, i saw 5.50 and 6 for pint pricepoints.
  • I believe the Old Speckled Hen is $6.50 -- mostly because it's imported and very hard to get in kegs in the US.
  • Old Speckled Hen is friggin delicious, especially when it has a nitrogen tap or whatever it's called that makes it all creamy.

    mmmmmm.
  • Which it does! They are very serious about their beer there.
  • Are they serving food now? I have gone twice and there was no food- and they were kind of rude about it, to be honest.
  • Subject: Bar Great Harry

If you're serious about your beer drinkin' you should check out Bar Great Harry over in Carroll Gardens. They always have a very good of selection fresh, independent beers on tap.

not sure if they've brought in the full menu, but i have had burgers there the last few times i've been and they're excellent.

not sure about 'rudeness', but as it was 'kinda' maybe it was you? or something. they've been very friendly to me and my crowd, but i introduced myself during downtime a few weeks back cuz i like to know my bartender.

No. It wasn't me. They were overwhelmed and rude. I went back this weekend and the service was excellent, as was the food. I am glad to have a fairly affordable place in the neighborhood for a beer and burger.

I feel the same way, I'm excited by the closeness and affordability. I'm glad your second experience was better, they seem like nice folks.
  • I stopped in recently for a beer and liked it, I'll definitely be back. It still felt a bit like they were getting their legs under them, but it's to be expected.
