Where does it begin... and end?

The only opinion the counts is from realtors - here it is
As broadly defined by brokers marketing real estate there, Park Slope runs all the way from Flatbush Avenue on the north to the Prospect Park Expressway on the south, and from Prospect Park and Prospect Park West to Fourth Avenue on the east. The April 2005 rezoning actually goes as far as Third Avenue on some blocks, and only to 15th Street on the south.

Subject: my 2 cents
Flatbush on the north, park on the east, 4th Ave on the west -- those marking the "natural" geographic boundaries like a river or mountain range would define a country's.
South end tougher to define -- I guess Prospect Expy makes sense as a geographic boundary, tho I've always heard (arrived here in early 90s) of 15th street as the south border. -
I was always taught 4th/Flatbush/park/15th.
Realtors - pfft. I live on PPW and 7th and they'd call that Windsor Terrace if they could squeeze a few bucks out of it. -
flatbush devides prospect heights on the east, 15th st. where prospect west intersects that roundabout devides windor terrace to the west. south is 4 ave.

I don't know anymore myself!
Years ago when I first moved here (19 years now)-it was defined as Flatbush to 15th Street and PPW to 5th Avenue-at least, that is what I thought.
Anything above 15th Street was considered South slope -

I thought South Slope was 9th St - 15th St. Is Greenwood Heights a made-up name too? Doesn't Windsor Terrace bleed over to the lower aves past 16th St and up to the expressway?

My neighbor (50-something years old) who grew up between 4th and 5th Aves at DeGraw or thereabouts . . . he thought he was growing up in the Slope at the time. I'll ask him next time I see him about the south end of things . . .
Fourth Ave/Flatbush/PPW/15th St borders. -
anything over the prospect expressway is greenwood heights! like 16 and 17 st.

Is it possible to go by zip code?
There are websites as well

although you have to do a little reading into this map, it may be a good start.
I dunno, neighborhoods?
It's too expensive no matter what, and whatever you do, DONT ask Realtors what they think. A few are honest people, but unfortunately the honest ones aren't making the rules and guidelines.

Part of Park Slope is 11215 and part is 11217 (north of Union I think).
I agree with the PPW/4th Ave/Flatbush/15th St. boundaries, though 16th Street west of PPW can be in Park Slope if it wants to be. Just south of 16th Street is Windsor Place, which is clearly part of Windsor Terrace, so that seems like a reasonable place to draw the line.
Not that it really matters. -

I also think South Slope is 9th - 15th. Greenwood Heights was made up by realtors but at least they came up with something nicer than SoParSlo or something.

windsor terrace (and part of gowanus) is 11215, I think - but it was a good idea

that map you linked to doesn't have a Greenwood Hgts . . . leading me to think it's a recent realtor thing.
armchair?
the guy who runs the auto glass place on seventh ave over by Greenwood is a wealth of info on the high school gangs of Sunset Park (c. 1970) and other local lore
anyone got a broken window to fix? chat him up and report back! -

maybe Prospect Ave would like to annex to Prospect Heights?
 -
Yep-sorry-9th Street was the cut off for Park Slope-this Greenwood Heights nonsense-isn't that something made up recently?

greenwood heights is next to the greenwood cemetery. its like north of the cemetery and west of it. -
I get the concept of where the name comes from and the area it represents-what I meant is-since when in the hell did that area have an actual name? And, where do some of these names come from-are they official NYC names, do realtors make them up?

Back in the mid 70s, I remember Park Slope borders being PPW to 6th and Union to 9th. Everything else was called Hell. I looked at a one bedroom on Sterling near 6th in 1977 ($125/month!), and it was definately not advertised as Park Slope. It was also a scary neighborhood then...
But seriously, I'm pretty sure anything above north of 9th and west of 6th (and south of Atlantic) was called South Brooklyn back then. -

Yep my mom still calls it South Brooklyn and I catch myself calling it that too. -
