glass inserts for cabinetry

we have purchased some custom wood cabinetry that is prepped for glass inserts and shelves. we are seeking a glass company in brooklyn to make these items for us. nothing fancy is needed here, but none of the sizes are standard, hence the difficulty in located a merchant to help us. any ideas? the ones we are aware of do strictly commercial work -- any names of places that are willing to work directly with the consumer would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure why you can't just call up a glass place and and get some panes cut to fit.
  • hence my asking for help :)

most of the places i'm aware of here in the borough do auto glass or windows only. or they are architectural glass folks who only work with contractors and the like. i know there are places in jersey which will suit my needs just fine; i'm trying to buy local. i'm sure these places exist in brooklyn -- i just don't know where they are.
  • I got one piece of custom mirror cut to fit from a place on or around 4th Avenue in the Slope. I would imagine they would do glass cut to fit. I went to them about 8 years ago so it's possible they're no longer around or they no longer do this type of work. I googled and found this (but am not sure if it's the place I went to):

I would suggest that even they say on the phone that they can't help you that you stop in and ask them in person. If you're nice about it, they may make an exception (that's what I did for my mirror). In this economy, busines is business.

    Good luck!
  • Park Slope Glass can and will do it. When we redid our kitchen, we replaced some of our wood cabinet doors with wood and glass doors. We replaced the inside wooden shelves with glass shelves, so that we could install lights inside the cabinets and have the lights illuminate the entire cabinets.

Park Slope glass made the shelves to order at our request.
  • booklaw, i wonder if you had that work done prior to '07. i ask because they had a ABC "seven on your side" expose done on them in 2007 for bad work, and citynoise.org has a multitude of complaints against them. according to one poster, things went seriously downhill with PSG after the orginal owners sold it.

i really appreciate your suggestion to use them, but those recent marks against them make me very leery!!
  • I was not aware that the business had changed hands, or that anyone had complained about them.

You are right... we used them in 2004 and earlier.
  • any glass shop should be able to help you out. There is a place on 5th Av, between St. Johns and Flatbush that made me glass panes/panels for doors I made. A pretty good selection.
  • thanks for the rec., whynot. much appreciated.
  • hey whynot i wanted to thank you once again -- we headed over to that place on 5th last week. they were lovely, we got exactly what we wanted, and everything arrived very quickly. hubby installed the shelves and panels this weekend and we are extremely happy. THANK YOU!
