Second Demolition Begins At Nets Arena Site In Brooklyn

The next step toward bringing a new Nets arena and residential complex to Brooklyn started Wednesday when crews began demolishing a second building.

A building at 585 Dean Street in Prospect Heights will be torn down over the next six weeks.

Crews also began tearing down the Underberg Building earlier this month.

Developer Bruce Ratner got the go-ahead from a judge last month to start bulldozing four more buildings – which were deemed unsafe – despite strong opposition from community groups who fear the project will destroy the neighborhood.

Dozens of buildings will need to eventually come down for the project – about 15-20 buildings just for the arena – many of which are currently occupied.

Ratner intends to build a multi-billion dollar complex at the site, which would include the arena as well as residential and commercial space.

Meanwhile, NY1 has learned the State Assembly and Senate will include a $33 million provision in the upcoming state budget for the project.

The only problem is the state inked a deal last year that secured Ratner's company much more financial support.

“The governor signed a memorandum of understanding for $100 million, and ultimately, I assume, he will find a way in which to fulfill that commitment which he made to supply the $100 million,” said Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

The city has also pledged to contribute $100 million to the preparation and public infrastructure improvements on and around the arena site.

Throw some crack vials on the floor and play music until late at night. Maybe they'll leave.

I thought about buzzing them at 4 am and announcing a delivery, but that backfires because I keep waking myself up. Cruel and savage, indeed.

That wouldn't work anyway, because your white male voice isn't threatening enough.

As long as they keep the baby mice out of the liquor cabinet, I guess it's okay.
