okay i got a letter from a guy name

marshal
city of new york
39-13 bell blvd
p.o. box 521
bayside, new york 11361-0521

its a letter to the landlord. stating that he'll come to take a gas meter id # 585521 into his custody order by court.

but the building doesnt even has a gas meter!

the letter also states he could break in to search for the gas meter. i mean is that place a real place for a marshal of nyc? whats the locale precint number for the cops? i guess i'll talk to them to see if this is real.

    Yes, there are marshalls and sherrifs in NYC. They're the folks who carry out evictions and enforce overdue parking tickets (you may have seen them driving around the neighborhood with tow trucks following them). Once, one forced me out of my car and demanded $500 in back parking tickets or they would take my car... People hire them to collect money they've won in court judgements, I think.

    I'd give 311 a call and try to find some more information. Sounds like your landlord is behind on his/her gas payments.

    i am the new landlord. there is no gas in the building i'm gonna pay the gas company to install new ones soon. old landlords were bastards letting building and everyone run the building into the ground literally. my family and i have to put alot of work into this building.

    That happened to me too. The previous owner of the building never returned the gas meter and BUG was after me for about a year to return it . My building was gut renovated and I had no idea what happened to it. It took a gazillion phone calls to straighten it out. I wouldn't stress too much about it, but call BUG and the collection agency and try to reason with them.

    Armchair - if you have no gas meters (which is run by Brooklyn Union Gas - which is now Keyspan Energy) then you should call the Marshall, make an appointment for him to come and inspect the property and he will then tell the court that you have no gas meters on the property but at this point the Marshall is the one who can have this taken care of. Good luck

    !@##$ waited for them all day :( and they never came. waited rom 9am to 4:30 pm. and i was suppose to be there from 10am to 4pm. those bastard marshalls never showed up to pickup their meter!!! arggg i had to take off work :(.
