Cable scam? — Brooklynian

Cable scam?

rose
edited November -1 in Park Slope
A guy just came to my door -- not wearing any kind of uniform and there was no truck of any kind parked outside. He said he was from Time Warner Cable and said, "It looks like you just moved in. Do you have cable yet?" I said that actually we had not just moved in and yes, we have cable. So then he asked if my next-door neighbors have cable. I told him I had no idea, and he thanked me and left.

I'm sure the guy was not really from Time Warner. I mean, Time Warner already knows I have cable, right? They don't need to send a guy door to door asking if people need cable. So what was this? Some kind of scam?

  • I don't remember the TW guys wearing uniforms, but you have to beg them to come by, and wait through five useless appointments before you get hooked up.

    So I'd guess scam.
  • sounds like a scam. like you said. the company would know if you have cable or not. i think he is testing to see if folks are home or not.
