the left and right should come together

That's a great example of being careful about where you get your information from. I'm not sure what kind of propoganda you think it is. I think it is coming from a conservative, libertarian or even a republican source and I think it's purpose is simply to equate President Obama with socialism. I don't think it's meaningful discourse and it reminds me that its important to educate yourself on the issue and not just listen to the brain dead magaphones, as George Saunders described them in a recent essay/book.

This guy makes a lot of statements that are just wrong...
"Being backward or reactionary always means questioning the power of government or invoking horrible men who have...Being progressive or forward thinking always means fully embracing government and invoking those who have, like Obama..."
Uh, no, actually, being backward or reactionary means that your views are dated or outright wrong, regardless of who is in power. Being progressive or forward thinking means ,well, uh, being forward thinking. You think outside of the box, you have new ideas, and they take in to consideration humanities future.
I also like how he says that Bush's crazy spending "set the stage for Obama," like that was a good thing. Yes, Obama is an awesome pres thus far, but he'd be even awesomer if he had inherited Clinton's economy and not Bush's. -
i just think the whole idea of states rights its great cause of the divide from north south etc.. they could have their anti abortion views and against gay rights and other things, while we can have pot pro abortion etc....

That's not really a reasonable compromise, though.
For human rights and health care issues, things DO need to be decided on a national level. I mean, think of it this way: if everything was state wide, there'd still be tons of states that allow slavery and don't think racism is an issue. It's the duty of the country as a whole to raise the quality of life within the states. People aren't pushing for gay marriage to be legal to piss off conservatives, they are pushing for it b/c the point of the argument is that a gay human being is just as much of a human being (and American) as a straight one, and across the nation, they should be allowed the same rights.
Issues like legalizing pot, however, should be decided at a state level, because not being allowed to legally smoke pot is not inhibiting a persons ability to live as a happy, healthy, and successful human being, and in turn we don't have to agree on the issue across the country.
Things decided on a state level are quality of life issues, not equal rights or necessary to life issues. At least, this is my understanding of what the line is/should be. -
Yokel rights.

if there is no real compromise both sides wont get any where.

^yep. that's why we still have slave states, right?

I fear one homogenous moderate party.
I'd prefer about 7 competing parties. Its not efficient, but at least one of them would have a chance of representing my point of view. South America has some good democratic examples in this regard.
"Real democracy is Really chaotic."
