Small Appliance Repair? — Brooklynian

Small Appliance Repair?

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good repair shop/person
for small appliance repair?

I have a cordless electric kettle, and the contacts seem
to have worn out. I ended up buying a new kettle, but
want to try to fix the old one anyway. It may not be
cost-effective, but I hate to throw the old kettle out
when the problem is so minor.

I searched the brooklynian boards, but most of the
"appliance repair" posts seem to be related to larger
appliances such as vacuums and dryers.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

  • Id love to know this too- I have a broken lamp I LOVE that was only around $100 but is no longer available.
  • There is an an electronic repair shop on 5th and Union (?). ...on 5th past Key Food, before Flatbush...

...I've used him to fix things that involve resodering, so he might be your man.
  • Can't help with small appliance repairs, i usually just throw stuff like that out, or, if it is something with a lifetime guarantee, call the company and see if they will repair it or send me a new one.
  • There's a place on 7th avenue somewhere b/t 10th-14th that I think could handle this job. It's on the East side of the street.

5th and Union? I don't think so. Must be further down Fifth, closer to Key Food, but I can't tell from what you wrote.

The appliance store on 7th between Union and Prez theoretically does repairs, although they've told me it isn't worth it for most stuff I've asked them about.

More people rewire lamps then do appliance repair - I've posted the number for a handyman electrician named Ricky somewhere on this board...er, don't have it on me now. He was great, rewired a fixture when he was here to install a ceiling fan.

ok, St. John's and 5th. ....he'll do stuff that requires simple sodering for around $20.

I now have my own sodering gun, so I no longer use him.

No, I won't repair your lamp or electric kettle.
  • ^What fun are you then?? Sheesh
  • You can try Brooke's Appliance Store on 7th avenue between 11th and 12th, they repair vacuums and sewing machines. Also JR Appliance on 7th avenue by Union has a repair service. Unfortunately for small appliances like that the repair will probably cost as much as a new product.
  • If you want to bring it into Crown Heights, I can prolly fix the kettle and the lamp for a reasonable fee.
