Stamp machine at 9th Street PO? — Brooklynian

Stamp machine at 9th Street PO?

I can't remember if they have one or not. I need stamps desperately (need to mail out the taxes!), and can't make it to the post office until after 5 pm.

Does the 9th Street PO have a working stamp machine where I can go in after 5 and buy some stamps from a machine? I tried going into the 7th Avenue PO on Saturday but their stamp machine was gone and the line was huge!

  • There is a stamp machine (its also the huge shipping machine thingie, theres usually a line.) Im not sure when they close though.

that is what I usually do, but last time I did that, it took a week to get here and I don't want to wait that long to mail out the taxes, thanks though
  • buying stamps online sucks, because even the post office admits they usually get stolen out of the mail.

thanks Carmen! I know the machine you are talking about, and they keep their doors open until 6:30 or 7 there.
  • You probably have to buy like 100 stamps at a time. I miss the old change-accepting stamp machines. I loved those things.
  • I believe the USPS in its infinite wisdom is phasing out the plain old stamp machines. As a customer, that drives me batty, but I'm sure the dollars and cents line up that way.

(They've also phased out stamp booklets, replacing them with double-sided sheets of 20 stamps that will conveniently peel off when you're not looking and gum up the insides of your wallet. Thanks again, USPS.)

Don't know what the story is on 9th street at this point, but in the city near grand central the old stamp machines are gone. Now, you can choose between the convenience of standing in a 45-minute line, or touch-screening your way to salvation on one of the huge post-o-matics that eventually spits out barcodes rather than pretty stamps. After hours, I don't see those HAL-wannabes being left in publicly accessible spaces.
  • LTA, is it priority? because if it is you can print the postage online, the either have them come pick it up OR go drop it in that machine that always clogs up
  • Ah, forgot about printing online. But, no, I was not planning on sending them out priority, i just want them out by April 15th.

No, you can buy a book of 18 'forever' stamps from that machine, I do it all the time. It folds nicely into wallet size.

  • Commerce Bank aka TD Bank on 5th Ave dispenses stamps at its ATM.
    best. thing. ever.
  • Ah, that is good to know about Commerce/TD, I live a couple of blocks from there. I ended up buying stamps at that courier place on 5th Avenue near 1st Street, I believe it's called Transport? i didn't even have to go in the place-the guy took my money outside and brought the stamps out to me. Good thing, no way the stroller would have fit in there. i will go to Commerce next time.
  • Subject: stamps

cvs sells stamps and they are open 24 hours.
  • Also, most bodegas sell stamps for an increased price (generally $0.60) but its good in a pinch.
  • Seriously, I don't want to wait on line in a bodega or an awful post office. I'm ORDERING you to go to TD and be amazed that the ATM spits out stamps like money. Besides, as made clear on this board, customer relations aren't always fun.
