Time Warner Cable is About to REALLY Suck!

I hope that someday cable companies and the various networks will be forced to offer their channels a la carte. For people like my husband and I, we'd save soooo much money. We could eliminate all of the sports/shopping/religious channels, for starters. Think of the money that could be saved!

If your husband doesn't like sports, you've got bigger problems than a cable bill.

I'm getting average 12mbs down. Huge difference!

I should mention that I was at about 8mb down, but then upgrade to TW Turbo, and now am getting 12+ down regularly

In a strategy that's likely to rankle consumers but be copied by competitors, Time Warner Cable (TWC) is pressing ahead with a plan to charge Internet customers based on how much Web data they consume. Starting next month, the company will introduce tiered pricing in several markets.

In April, Time Warner Cable will begin collecting information on its customers' Internet use in the Texas cities of Austin and San Antonio and in Rochester, N.Y. Consumption billing will begin in those cities later this summer. In Greensboro, N.C., the billing changes will begin sooner. Spun off from Time Warner (TWX) this month, Time Warner Cable had been testing a plan to meter Internet usage in Beaumont, Tex., since last year.

And what will they do after FIOS becomes available nationwide, and all of their customers leave?

They are making themselves less attractive to consumers just as their monopolies are eroding... not smart business.

once you get rid of TW internet service directv or dish network become cheaper television options. more channels too.

Anybody have any idea when PS will be getting FIOS?

It's already starting to be available in parts of Prospect Heights, much sooner than I had originally heard. Apparently Internet only without TV for now.

Well, Hulu, Roku, Xbox Live, etc all require broadband internet to work... I think it is for that reason precisely why TWC is thinking of upping their charges. So much video content streaming through their lines is no doubt taxing their capabilities. That, and they see potential for huge new revenues to be made by charging for this high-bandwidth usage.

TWC service has been mostly fine for us... I do think they should eliminate franchise monopolies nationwide though so we get some serious competition.
