  • I guess t-fal's ost was very constructive.
I'm proving my point about this websites intent of gossip and lies ans more importantly being anti-first amendment

The problem seems to be that everyone has wasted the past day and a half on you. This board was both more interesting and more useful before you showed up. Since your hatred of the site does not seem able to make you go away, I am all in favor of banning you so we can get back on topic.

    Edited to add:
    anti-first amendment
This is a child's view of the First Amendment. The First Amendment does not mean you can have the right to say whatever you want at someone else's expense. Hence my suggestion that you start your own site.
  • You ban me for no reason that you're intimitated by me.
I wastd your time, but you haven't mine; how one-sided is that.
Any more liberal partisan finger pointing out there
  • I bid you all farewell, as I will only use this site to read and be informed through your wit and clever phrases.
I am disappointed that you have resorted to this bully tactic, as I often expected more from this crowd of Intelligencia
  • As I've said before, the main issue is the baiting, the abusive terms (coming from both sides) and not following the thread's topic. My advice to you is to get out of this thread and post a new topic. Be respectful and refrain from exclaiming in caps and I'll likely be much more supportive of your statements.

As it stands, you're seem to be just picking fights and this really sucks as I agree with you that the politics of most of the people on this board are pretty liberal. My personal feelings and politics aside, I think this board needs a dissenting opinion to attempt to create a real balance that represents this neighborhood, but you have to play fair and set the example, even if others are not, I can moderate them too and I have and will.

As it stands, I'm unfortunately running very low on patience with you and if you're not going to listen to reason, then I feel no point in advocating for you. I do wish you'd listen to my reasoning, though as I'd like to see a more balanced board here.

I also like to point out in "Guest's" defense (maybe, I guess?) that it doesn't help flaming him back. It's a natural human response to respond to a bitchy attack in kind. So, with that said, I'd ask that people not feed the fire, because, to look at it objectively, those that bait him aren't that much better and are egging the issue on.

Just don't feed troll posts, period. If anything, that may encourage people to frame their arguments more constructively.

Hmm... All I did was ask whether you used the words "dykes" and "chinks" in your post that got edited. I didn't see it, so I'm trying to give you the benefit of restating your point so I can evaluate it, UNFILTERED, in the manner YOU intended it.

Maybe the moderator misunderstood your point, so the opportunity is now yours to set the record straight.

[UPDATE: Anonymous reportedly did use "dikes" (sic) as a slur (see edits above), but the term chinks was used by somebody else replying to Anonymous.]

i do not understand you at all young man. take a deep breath and type carefully. try to use logical arguments and reasoning, and if possible, try to actually address the arguments used by the adversarial parties. base your arguments in fact, no need to let your emotions cloud your judgement.

also, since you're such an expert on the matter, explain to me how the first amendment applies to a privately run internet forum? come on young man, argue it like scalia would.
  • I don't have a problem with Guest's posts. just casting my vote.
  • hello all, this is my first post here.

i'm having a tough time figuring what is going on with respect to the deleted posts, since i did not read them prior to deletion. however, if the quote below is the gist of the deleted comment, i think the moderation on this board is too heavy-handed.

i was really digging this forum over the past couple of weeks because of the wealth of knowledge i gleaned about the neighborhood. sure, a few guest recently posted some "inflammatory" comments, but i think the better tactic is for fellow users to ignore the posts/threads they don't like, instead of having the moderators invoke the extreme measures of editing/deleting posts and banning users.

in my opinion, it's the recent rise in moderation in this board, and the ganging up on posters - not the recent proliferation of "troll" postings - that is a negative about this forum.
dailyheights wrote: From memory, your post basically said something like this: "the city will make the condo people put up new trees, but they will delay it until the last minute. Naturally, all the Prospect Heights tree-huggers, young and old, will bitch and complain constantly until the trees are put back. Hey, you unemployed liberals, don't you realize that you are polluting the world when you turn on your radios to listen to NPR?" I forget the rest, if you care to recreate the rest of your attack below, then feel free.
  • Hey, you unemployed liberals, don't you realize that you are polluting the world when you turn on your radios to listen to NPR?
    don't you mean Air America.
  • FYI- the paraphrasing of the original quote is highly edited. The original post did contain epithets and was much more offensive.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm one of only three people on this board who has the power to delete anything, and I've only deleted one or two things that I was asked to (double posts). No one, as far as I know, has been banned. Considering that the recent problem "guest" was hijacking every active thread in which interesting discussion was taking place, I do think he was a problem. I definitely do not think that very much moderation has taken place, and only one (non-)user has really been affected.

Well, the issue is respect. The only posts that have been deleted have been abusive. As far as the moderation goes, there's hardly been any and to my knowledge as a Mod, no one's been banned. I think the point is - and I'm sure you'll agree, that the threads need to be on topic, respectful (it's okay and encouraged to disagree, but rules of conduct and debate, much like real life, should be respected in order to keep the "intelligent" dialogue flowing. What I'd like to see is people sticking to topics, opening their own threads if they have something to discuss or dislike and above all, being respectful and restrained. Shouting matches suck and I hate having to moderate, but honestly and objectively I can say it's necessary. But, as I said in regards to our moderating...it's very rare. If you scan some of the more virulant threads, you'll see. They wouldn;t be half as juicy if my hand were heavier.
  • So moderation is the problem now. This has been a wonderful day.

There have been more than 3,200 posts on this board, of which maybe 6 (0.18%--one fifth of one percent) have ever been touched by moderators. Of these posts, 3 were edited or deleted in the past week because they contained racial slurs.

ah the joys of running a board eh? don't worry, if you get it on all sides, you're probably doing something right!

Don't sweat it - every board has this problem (how to moderate etc) and you can't please everyone.
