one of you who is a member of the group that costs $25 should promptly advertise the existence of this resource.
"I just found a free alternative to this list serv, that is just as good, so I won't be posting here anymore ...here is the link"
Something to that effect. -
or stay a member and repost the content to the new list.
*note-i'm not a parent, resident of PS, or member of any yahoo listservs, at all. -

I have a feeling the moderators will not let that through.

they are letting cheap people rant about it costing money , right? -
Since yesterday the postings have stopped on the subject, I think they have been moderating the posts. They also did that the first day they announced it too. It seems strange that the posts would all of a sudden stop.
-
Oops, my bad, I just checked the Yahoo group and they let a posting in about the new group...
Hi XXXX,
There's nothing to stop such a list from sprouting up and in fact one already
has:
( The Other Park Slope Parents Group —
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/theotherparkslopeparents/).
There are also numerous other parent email list for other neighborhoods as well
as additional resources like message boards with neighborhood specific sections
such as: The Brooklynian http://brooklynian.com/forums/index.php
If you feel uncomfortable or object to paying the $25, or just want to expand
your options and resources I'm sure you'll be able to find the info and support
you need one way or another.
Hope that helps

I take it this has been a contentious subject over the years, why does that not surprise me. -
So, this is a different group from this one also just announced on PSP?:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheFREEParkSlopeParents/
And, why is everyone who is starting these offshoots being all anonymous and secretive? -
A strictly anonymous parenting board with no approval process is going to be filled with SPAM and ads in about a month. SO glad these new list serves are springing up.....but to give them any value, they need light moderating otherwise they get filled with all the people trying to sell crap to parents.
I believe the free board that lightly moderates will be the winner in this contest of new boards. -
LongTimeSloper wrote: So, this is a different group from this one also just announced on PSP?:
They are probably being secretive because that PS parents board has some crazy insane moms and members that have far reaching tentacles (LOL I almost wrote testicles!) and people are scared to rage against the machine. I'd be freaking scared to go against those people too!

The boards need to combine. The value comes in numbers.
Anonymous will end up creating an Urban Baby board. That board is quite terrifying.....it is amazing how nasty people can get in cyberspace -

Oh, come on! What are they, the mafia? LOL
And, tonight, yet another free board announced, they are all going to cancel each other out. Here's the latest one;
That's why I've decided to open a new online community via Ning.com. PARK
SLOPE KIDS & PARENTS at http://parkslopekids.ning.com/?xgi=dhZER7n. (After
you've "applied" for membership, you'll only need to go to
http://parkslopekids.ning.com/)
PARK SLOPE KIDS & PARENTS will never charge a fee. It will always be free.
The only membership test will be to provide your zip code and kids' (first)
names and ages—and that information will always be kept private.
At PARK SLOPE KIDS, you'll find an terrific array of new tools to
communicate with your friends. Among other things, you'll be able to
—discuss stuff (just like you can right now on PSP)
—sell stuff (just like you can right now on PSP)
—have those discussions via your email box or online at the site
—post photos of your kids
—post videos of your kids
—write a blog about your kids
—create groups of friends (like Facebook)
—chat, live, in real-time just like on Facebook
—create a group calendar of Park Slope events!

Neither to PSP. Berkley Parents has been around a lot longer than PSP and they have retained their mission to be free.
I think it is great that so many people want to start alternative list serves. It isn't F'ing over PSP. PSP wants to go with a business for profit venture and good luck to them. They can't expect that the majority of people are going to want to sign on to that and of course will go elsewhere.
You seem very invested in the for profit model. -
Does this mean the parents of Park Slope will finally be freed from capitivity? Yay!
-
Who are you talking to ?
i was referring to the people who basically advertised their new list serv for parents ON PSP, and PSP posted it.
there are tons of list servs, and PSP listed all of them, which is part of their community based service.
i'm just taken aback by the sudden "i can do that!" attitude of so many so late in the game. why didn't they do it before? i think we know why.
as for the "profit model" angle i don't care what "model" it is. i never think of that when it comes to any other expenditures in my life, why start with this?
