eco/kid/pet friendly exterminators?

I won't go into the details and basically know what to do for our minimal pest issues but the landlord has put me (lowest floor apartment) in charge of getting an exterminator in, and all parties involved want a "safe" one since there are small children and pets living in the building.

Suggestions of someone you've used or heard good things about, preferably local?

I searched old posts but didn't find anything so far.

  • The place we use in my building uses all "green" bait, traps, and poison. Their spray smells like lavender and rosemary.

I am pretty sure they are called Absolute Death.

  • ^^ hahaha Vidro that is hysterical!!!!!!!!
  • vid, love the name of that place and it gets good reviews, but I think we're going with the company a former tenant used and I was just given the info for:

    USA Exterminators, Inc
    475 3rd Ave
    Bklyn, NY 11215
    718-832-0900

Prices (LL is paying): $99 poison (supposedly human and pet safe) in hole house for bugs and mice
$450 Rodent proofing which involved finding holes, putting poison in them, then filling them with steel wool and covering the hole with plaster.

These were the people who fumigated the St. John's place that was featured on NPR couple months ago.

  • A little advice - don't put poison down for the mice....just seal the holes so they can't get in...if you put poison down they'll die there and you will smell their decomposing bodies.

That's what I wanted done (but I'm not doing it myself--we're paying a lot of rent and were assured that included the LL paying someone else to do this sort of stuff, which I specifically asked about). The LL has decided that letting the exterminator put out ONE poison bate station every 6 months should do. Hahaha! I think rats stuck in a wall stink like nothing else, but can barely notice a tiny dead mouse.

I've not seen any signs of mice in our place yet, so I'm not eager to do much. The neighbors have a much less nice/well sealed kitchen (it's temporary Ikea stuff). Ours is really well put together and has very few places crumbs can hide and sustain or attract mice. Along with a "loose" kitchen the neighbors have small children so food stuff is more likely to be lurking in nooks no matter how much they clean, imo. Our apartment is really nice (owner's unit, while owners work abroad) and they will flip out and keep our deposit if we do the quick and dirty fixes I could get away with in our old rent stabilized dump so I'm not doing anything until we're invaded.

Oh, and you can see in several other mouse threads, that I strongly recommend the Victor Mouse zapper if you're looking for a trap. That thing works!

Don't use this place. Horrible incompetence and rudeness.
