Is this place worth it? — Brooklynian

Is this place worth it?

Hello all-

So I'll be working in midtown starting this summer and I'm looking for a 2 BR for 1800 and under. I found a by owner listing (no fee) on craigslist for a 725 sq ft 2 BR for 1725 a month that is on Waverly Street, almost to the BQE.

A few things:
1. Is the price justified?
2. Will I be / feel relatively safe in the area? I'm used to living in diverse areas, and the crime stats I found online seemed fine.
3. Am I insane for commuting from this location in midtown (say Rockefeller Center)? Hopstop.com isn't exactly cooperating, but the nearest stations are the Clinton-Washington Aves station and the Lafeyette Avenue Station.

Thanks for all of your opinions!

    40-50 mins?
  • Thats what I figured... Getting to be on the longer side, which is making me cautious about taking the apt.

that's painful. move to prospect heights and take the B. 20-30 mins to rock ctr.

  • So Prospect Heights sounds nice and all, but will I be able to find a 2 BR there for 1800 or less?

quite frankly, the desc of the 2BR you posted sounded pretty ... small. take a look at it. if it's nice, move in. but it sounds like it has either 2 really small bedrooms or a normal bedroom and a big closet (aka 2nd bedroom). not sure what you'll find in p.heights.

yeah i think you can, hehe i was looking on criags list.
  • Thanks for everyone's help!

So... If you were visiting the city Friday (from Ithaca) and wanted to make more appointments to look at apartments, what would be your plan of attack? Some of the CL stuff looks OK, but nothing specifically for June. I'm thinking of contacting some of the brokerages from the thread over in the park slope forum, but not sure how productive this would be.
  • post on the ph board :). i'm sure folks know agents in teh area better :p.
  • YOu mean the G train is the nearest, right. Because the walk from Waverly Ave to the C train is long. The G train on Lafayette & Clinton or Washington would be closer. You could take that to Queens & transfer for the E or F in Queens.

AAhhhh... yes I love my commute to Rock Ctr from Bergen... its soooo quick...and I see the same tall cop every morning!!

if it's a brand new renovation with a lot of amenities.

closer to the BQE... it's a little sketchy over there. scary at night on Park.

a better transportation option would be take a bus on Myrtle to Jay st. and take the F, rather than waiting for the G train.

but all in all, i wouldn't take this apt., unless it was your last resort.
