Tipping Fresh Direct
Comments
-
I give them $2-3, unless they're very late, which happens sometimes.
-
I always tip them. Depends on how much cash I have on hand, but usually $5 - $10 bucks. We tend to order stuff in bulk and it's a lot to carry. Plus I'm a sap who remembers working for tips in my waitressing days. I have to say that they are almost never late and sometimes come a bit early - perhaps they know me as a decent tipper.
-
I always tip, amount depends on how much I order, usually 4 - 5 bucks. Small price to pay for me not having to drag my lazy ass to the grocery store.
-
To be fair, they've only been late twice, but one time it was three hours late. The rest of the time, they're on time and occasionally early. Plus, they're usually nice guys.
Go Fresh Direct!! -
Well, I'd just like to know how much tip is required to stop them from propping open my front door after they leave. Twice recently, after a Fresh Direct delivery, I've found my front door propped open with a 20 gallon pail of snow melt. So all of them are not nice. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen to them.

i tip $5 at least. No stairs and usually no heavy stuff but I too am grateful that I just get to go on line and order. The guys are always polite and friendly and just want to get out fast and get back in the truck.
-
Around $5, more if it's really really cold and nasty out and we get lots of heavy stuff (but we are on the ground floor so not terrible for them). At least once we've had them refuse the tip. I couldn't tell if they just wanted their night to be over or if maybe the neighbors had tipped well (we seem to get deliveries the same time as some folks right above us.)
They are always surprisingly friendly One night it was really cold and we were all in a hurry to get on and shut doors when I realized the dog had crept up to one of the guys. I quickly told him that the dog is definitely friendly and the guy said, with a big smile and all seriousness, "I know what to do. I watch the dog whisperer." Hahaha. -
we always do $3-4.
-
$5. That's a decent tip.

$5

Go to the store yourselves you lazy bastards. Fresh Direct is evil, pollutes, passes the recycling off to the city, causes traffic jams, bad labor practice. The world worked fine before them. You don't have to worry about tipping t the store.
-
It is not about being lazy. All grocery stores in this neighborhood deliver. Plus, FD prices are very competative, for some items, compared to the stores. I will agree with you, though, that FD is wasteful. It's packaging is very wasteful, but how would you know that if you buy from the store?
-
Babel, your groceries do not magically materialize at the grocery store. The utilize a boatload of energy being trucked from manufacturer to warehouse to distributor to grocery store. They use energy being stored in each location. They produce waste.
FreshDirect isn't perfect, but they're certainly aware of your criticisms and have made great strides to mitigate (100% biodiesel truck fleet, drastically reduced packaging (on its way), etc).
I'm not aware of any labor issues, but if you're talking union stuff, I ain't listening. -
One flight of stairs (plus the stoop) and I usually only use FD for big orders. I tip $5 but if they arrive in the first half hour of my time slot or if my order includes heavy stuff like 2 cases of beer, I tip $8 or $10.
-
I used to love grocery shopping but the stores here have limited selections and are so crowded it can be impossible to navigate (esp. with a stupid heavy cast) so sometimes FD is the only place I can get certain produce items.
When I can, I prefer to take a zipcar over to Fairway and Pathmark and load up for a month or two of most stuff. If I can go on a weekday, it's very pleasant shopping compared to the packed store on weekends. When it was 15 degrees out, I cut out all trips out of the apartment that I could, and FD cut out most grocery shopping. I was happy to tip those guys
-
I do not actually have Fresh Direct deliver to me. But I do give the driver a buck or two if I see him successfully pass my car without knocking off the mirror.
-
I don't order from FD because I love grocery shopping and feel their packaging is a big waste of materials. My roommate orders sometimes (I scowl at her) and I know for a fact that she found some magic code for free delivery and does not tip them.
-
tip them only if they turn-off their frigging engines while theyre parked outside your house
