edit : thanks new2hood - thats the link i was trying to find
the lineup seems much more mainstream then in previous years.
too mainstream IMO
-
hubby told me today that Bonnie Raitt will be there also, not sure if she is on the list
-
She will be there, but it's a paid benefit. Lawn seats are $40 (closer are more, obv.), and I believe on on sale Friday. Jackson Browne and MGMT are also paid concerts.
-
There are a lot more benefit concerts (the ones they charge for) since a couple of big sponsors (starbucks and WaMu) won't be there.
-
That's a bummer.
-
I am gonna sound like a cliche but I am fondly remembering years back when Celebrate Brooklyn was a series of concerts with interesting line up of Artists and a small suggested donation. It is what it is now and I did lay out the bucks to see Dylan last summer but too bad so many of the concerts are higher tocketed events.

i would imagine that regardless of the "bigness" of the names playing, it's expensive to outfit the space, provide A/V needs, security, etc., and the lack of sponsors means someone's got to pay for it, thus the increase is paying concerts. I for one will go see any concert if I get to lie in the grass, eat my own food, be surrounded by the awesomeness of PP and sneak in my own wine, so I'm a little sad that there may be less free ones this year. But, the full lineup's not out, so maybe we'll all be nicely surprised!
-
I don't think $40 is a lot to pay to see some of the bigger named stars, not at all.
-
$40 is not a lot at all. And I don't think they're being greedy. Putting on 'free' shows costs a small fortune. The insurance alone must be prohibitively expensive. With sponsors dropping out, they have to look for additional revenue at the gate. Plus, the line-up is really good this year. Much better than the Summerstage schedule.
-
where is the Summerstage schedule?
-
I think the site is summerstagenyc.com. But you can google it.
-
Does anybody know if the showed the movie this past Saturday? I have gone to movie screenings in the past unless for it to be cancelled (although it stopped raining earlier in the day).
