Solo and it's music... — Brooklynian

Solo and it's music...

Subject: Solo and it's music...

Hey Guys,
I'm trying not to be an old man... but I was trying to go to sleep last night (had to get up early today) and I live over a block away from the new Solo Bar on Cortelyou and Marlborough (next to the Subway Station).

I think it's great they have live music -- I really do -- but I'm thinking that it is VERY loud and ending at 1:00am if it's that loud isn't OK.

1st -- Why is it that loud? It's a small place... I guess they are going for "music venue" and not neighborhood bar, because there's no way you could actually have a conversation in there.

2nd -- Why is it that loud over a block away? Not music in the distance, but pretty much loud enough that I wouldn't have to go there to listen. No sound baffling? Were their windows wide open?

Again, I don't want to be an old man, but this seems a bit over the top. (I actually tried to call at 12:40 when it seemed to reach a crescendo and then continue at that level for another 20 mins -- but no one answered the phone # I found.)

  • They didn't answer the phone because they couldn't hear it ringing over the loud music....and, yes, you are an old man. Ha! (jk)
  • OK... i think i'm an old man... but FUCK, it's 11:30 on Tuesday and the bass playing at Solo is basically in my bedroom again

    What the fuck?!
  • Ear plugs dude.
  • the acoustics in this place are really weird. tile floor, tile ceiling, all conversations sound like they're happening in an indoor swimming pool. weird place, hopefully they will change a bunch of things or something else will come in.

The place has been open for like two months after being closed for over a year so we in the hood should be happy as I doubt anything else would come in for quite a while.
  • Actually, I thought the acoustics were pretty good, till the band started playing. Not a particularly melodic form of jazz. ..but seriously, I am very glad they've reopened, and that they appear to be competing well in the area. They seem to have just an average variety of booze on the shelf BUT I will keep my eyes open for whatever they do and spend my money accordingly!!
  • Honestly, I don't care for the live music, but I like Solo. I was locked out of my apartment for something like 6 hours a couple months ago and killed time there. I can't even begin to count how many beers i downed, but my final check was $20. Total WIN.

Yeah, get some earplugs. It's still Brooklyn.
  • It's still Brooklyn.
Despite the influx of dawdlers- yes. It still is.

Old man- Talk to the owners, it'll work out.
  • Hey all of you unsympathetic responders; you've obviously never experienced incessant noise polution invading the space you own / pay for. Or else you're a cacpophony unto yourselves...you're no old man, Dude. I hear ya.
