Jewish Hospital (air conditioning) — Brooklynian

Jewish Hospital (air conditioning)

Hey, I'm moving to the Jewish Hospital on May 15. This might be a stupid question, but do they have air conditioning?

  • no. your unit might have one of those fedders' sleeves, in which case you'll need a certain kind of unit.
  • Hmm, I didn't see one of those, and those windows are HUGE....
  • not all units have them. i use a regular window unit.

honestly, i don't even need it except for the street noise at night sometimes. those big windows pull in a lot of air.
  • Yeah, I put my regular window unit in the sleeve and tried my best to insulate around it. I only use it on the hottest summer nights, and try to use fans the rest of the time. Fans and open windows have done me well so far.
  • That sounds great. I never had a unit until last july, that one weekend I thought I would melt into a puddle. I hope being on the 8th floor I'll get nice breezes. I'm excited to move, do you guys like the building?

I wouldn't do that...unless your regular unit happens to not have any ventilation grills on the sides or top of the unit (which would be rare). At best, it'll be really inefficient without the proper airflow...at worst, you could overheat/destroy the unit.

Oh, OK. Thanks for the advice. I didn't want to have to buy a new AC because they're expensive. I will find a new solution for this summer. Thank you.
