Veets...
Thanks. That's my point. On other posts (like "the dog tied up outside one") people say you shouldn't take your dog on errands. That's not always possible. Many times I want to give her a walk AND buy some toilet paper and there's no fucking way I'm leaving her tied up outside a store because some douchebag with an attitude tells me she's not allowed in a crappy discount store. -
Ok, there was a thread pretty recently about bringing your dog into stores. Let's not start another one.

Just a note about this (it comes up at my job) - a lot of products contain this warning or something similar if you look closely. CA has this crazy law (Prop 65) allowing consumers to file suit against companies for having any amount of a chemical (even amounts proven safe) without having that warning. Companies basically have to file a court case requesting a declaratory judgment in order to not have to use the warnings so it is often cheaper for them to just put the warnings on. (Okay, the law itself isn't crazy, but the way it has been used is - basically this one lawyer goes around finding products to sue over, finds a straw plaintiff to put atop the case, and makes himself a ton of money. But that's neither here nor there.) Especially if you buy something identical, that doesn't mean it is safer, it just means that the distributor didn't plan on selling that product in CA.
I am like 3,000 miles from California, but I still tossed them and bought seaming identical pair of lunch boxes at Save on 5th for exactly 10 times the price.
I still go to DII, because they have cheep toxic stuff and I have no plans to go to California -

Not everybody wants to be in the same place with your dog. I would never confront you (for fear of being call a douchbag) I am glad the manager is doing his job at DII.

I am in aggreement with eggcream and winston ( in a way). The thread is about a discount store and not pro or con on subject of bringing pets in to stores.
By the way I was in Manhattan and shoped at the GAP. Got great bargains and did not take my dogs along. Pretty sure I supported the continued persecution of down trodden people in 3rd world countries. Pretty sure that I got better quality stuff than DD and absolutely sure my adorable dogletts were not in anyone's face becaue I left them home. -
Subject: I can't believe I wish a bank was still there ...
As a child, the space on 9th and 5th use to be a bank. It was a beautiful bank, and every christmas, P.S. 39's choir sang in the lobby. How times have changed. Instead of children singing, we now buy cheap products made by children in third world nations controlled by totalitarian dictators. Walking through these doors is a walk of shame.
Drunk man above has a good point: is this the America we dreamed of as children? Or is it the corporate takeover of our moral and ethical values. The type of stuff sold in DII use to be made in America, and the quality of the American stuff was far superior. Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio.
Having cried about the state of the world, SAVE ON FIFTH is a decently run and established store with friendly workers, a good selection, and always a manager at the door to say hello and help. I would recommend this store, even if the prices are 10 times more expensive.
Ten times cheap is still cheap. -
I too remember when it was a bank - my grandmothers had accounts there and Christmas Club accounts (remember those) - full of beautiful marble and chandeliers - I was in awe as a child when i visited brooklyn - the choices we make as consumers goes so deep - I wish people would educate themselves on the truth behind the label.
also......use craigslist, thrift shops, consignment shops, stoop sales or do without - there are other options - think about your purchases.

The weekend I was driving to a bowling ally to for my son's birthday party. On my lap was an ice cream cake. I realized that we needed candles, plates, forks, and a knife. One stop at Save on Fifth got everything in a minute.
Turns out that Melody Lanes had all that stuff already

Yes, it was the Astoria Federal Savings Bank which is now on the corner of 10th and 5th, but, it isn't nearly as glamorous looking as it once was.
