Oh, man. Anytime someone tries to use the "PC" thing to dismiss online discussion, it's ON.
We haven't had a flamewar in a couple of days at least. Should be interesting. -

yeah. I sure do miss those flamewars.
it'd be more fun to have one at soda, though. can we all have a big mock fight? -

i'm pc? are you serious?
torturing animals is criminal. and it's shitty to make fun of a tortured animal. i've seen roadkill. the blood congeals and stops flowing. the blood in that animal was obviously flowing. but maybe that's funny if you're a sociopath, or just stupid. -
findcate wrote: i'm pc? are you serious?
The joke was lame, but no one knows if that animal was tortured. Unless you're some sort of master forensic pathologist, I don't know how you can determine the manner of death of an animal from a few pictures in which the animal can't even be identified due to the opacity of the ice.

are you serious that you didnt notice my joke about elmer fudd getting his frozen dinner. who knows if this thing is real or not. you cant just asume what ever it is in the picture. it could of been just a fake toy with fake blood. god grow a sense of humor. he got people like you riled up. the artist(or not) got his point of shock through.

lets say it is real. it could of been dead before it was put in the ice. you cant really asume everything in life. i suggest you quit eating meat. think of where the animals come from.
findcate:I like some beef please
me:yo dude you want a dead cow?
findcate:no beef.
me:beef comes from a dead cow. you know the animal that goes moo
findcate:*cries* lies!!! i been told beef comes from the supermarket! -

Regardless if the animal was tortured or even if it was fake. Freezing a cat in a block of ice for shock value is illegal, to make people believe you have done so is fucking stupid, even if after the fact you say "oooo haha its not real". -
that's kind of a stupid assumption, especially considering how riled up i get over animals suffering. i've been vegeterian for 15 years. i have the cholesterol level to prove it.
i noticed your joke, and people who make fun of tortured animals piss me off. it was even more stupid than the labels you like to throw around. i get pissed off at people who abuse animals & people. and whoever did that is not an artist, he or she is a mental case. -

There is a fine line between an "un-PC" joke and being a insensitive shit. -

anyway, i'm not a forensic pathologist. but unless you happened across an animal that was in the midst of bleeding to death, and you tossed it into your square mold filled with water & took it home & put it in your meat locker, I don't see how you'd get the same effect. seems like common sense to me. the blood would have to be flowing when the animal was placed into water in order to freeze that way. wonder what the person that did this is dreaming up next??

its not common sense. common sense would be hey its a block of ice with something that looks like a cat(or a rabbit according to some other reports) and looks like blood. and this all from a picture. hmm my common sense and logic would say. things sometimes looks like one thing and turns out to be other things. nothing looks like what they seem to be. like this sidewalk art looks real but its just chalk http://www.impactlab.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=7567 -

What law does this break? Clearly the offender is guilty of littering and of poor taste. However, although I'm not a lawyer, surely the act of freezing the remains of whatever it is can't be illegal, assuming the animal (if that's what it is) wasn't mistreated before death. Otherwise the Tyson people would be out of business. -
I don't think this is real (as in, not a real bleeding rabbit frozen as it bled out). Anyone who's speared a fish, or watched Shark Week knows that blood colors water very quickly. If this had been a real bleeding animal submerged and frozen we'd be seeing a red block with a shadow in it.
Of course, it could still be a dead animal frozen to make it look like it bled. But as a person who enjoys eating rabbit I can't find myself getting that worked up over it provided it was slaughtered properly. -

The cat in a block of ice alludes to crime taking place, now cops have to spend their time finding out whether it is a stupid prank or not. You are comparing two completely different things, think before you post. -

You are comparing two completely different things, think before you post.not comparing apples to oranges, i'm comparing, how people should stop asuming what they see. things seem one way on the human eye, turns out to be something else. another words what you see isnt always what you get. thats why i posted that link. the chalk thing is a illusion that your eye sees. you might think its real but it isnt. you might think you see a dead rabbit or cat, could be really something else. god you and findcate should really chill and stop jumping to conclusions! -
I totally agree that freezing a dead/dying/abused animal and dumping it in the middle of park full of people is pretty gross, disgusting, debased, etc. I'm not really commenting about that at all - I'm going off on a tangent.
someone mentioned roadkill, which lead me to think about http://www.srl.org/ Survival Research Labs - Mark Pauline's gig in SF (for almost 30 years now). now I think he just stages massive robot wars and/or blows up helicopters (or both) with his machines: http://www.srl.org/machines.html. back when, though, SRL used "organic" robots and filmed them acting out ... well, here's a more coherent review.
anyway, I read somewhere .. maybe in the re:search industrial culture handbook (must have reading for budding anarchists and angry tech-heads in the early-to-mid 90s) .. that they only used roadkill for the robots and that the only living things harmed in their productions and robot creations were human. -
So, Captain M, i assume you eat pork too. does it make this less cruel?? it does violate the law. there are laws for humane slaughter, because animals serve us. we have a responsibility to treat them with compassion.
http://www.stopanimaltests.com/f-lemasPigs.asp
I am very aware of animal suffering, which is why don't eat meat. I just think any animal, rabbit or cat, deserves compassion and it's not funny to see animals tortured. It's just sad, for us and for them.
and yah, damien hirst is cruel. i saw his fish rotting in their tanks in soho. no wonder his career's in the toilet.
Those photos of the frozen animal made me sick. It's worthwhile for police to investigate such things, often they are not taken seriously but there's a larger issue. -
hey findcate do you wear leather goods at all? meaning belts, shoes, sneakers, you get the point. just out of curiousity.
-
nope. I'm buy synthetics. it's really not that hard. and i make sure to buy products from people who don't do unnecessary animal experimentation, and i don't buy from companies that sell fur. and i don't wear those stupid ass gigantic fur hats that so many people were sporting this winter. ugh. i just want to strangle people when i see them in those hats.

I know you're joking, AW, but I just want to make clear that the above=sarcasm thing was specifically supposed to convey that I was not making that accusation. -

Reminder to findcate and Captain M (the latter of whom, one would think, would know better after having hung around here so long): There are only two rules here, and they are stated clearly at the top of the page. "Be nice or leave." In practice, that means that we don't tolerate name-calling. In fact, that's pretty much the only rule we ever enforce. I would much appreciate it if you went back and edited the epithets out of your posts. Believe it or not, there are ways to express disagreement with people, even fairly fierce and resentful disagreement, without resorting to childish name-calling.
