Restaurant recommendations (5th or 4th ave park slope area)
I get one cheat meal a week on my exercise regime.
Anyone knows of a restaurant on 4th avenue or 5th avenue from Atlantic avenue all the way to 45th street where I just MUST eat, because the food is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.
I love:
German style food
(pig, potatoes, cabbage, and beer in all their incarnations)
Comfort food (who doesn’t love apple pie ala mode or Mac and cheese with bacon)
Good coffee
Good wine (I like Rieslings)
and yummy chocolate desserts.
Please advise

I wasn't impressed. They don't take credit cards, either. They do have an ATM that charges you 2.00 to use.
The food was okay, nothing spectacular, though. -
if you like ethiopian, ghenet on 4th and degraw is beyond delicious...

I second Ghenet. Totally amazing delicious food. Service leaves a little to be desired, but the food is so good I don't really care (it's not usual for me to say this).

Yes I agree, ghenet on 4th is sooo good. I live in a different neighborhood now and can't find anything close to that place over here. Definitely worth checking out. I can't remember the name of them, but I did try a couple of really good Ethiopian/african beers.

Bonnies on 5th adn 1st might be a good fit... Really great wings, burgers, sandwiches, fries and chiotle mayo to slather on everything in sight.
For more expensive fare... Try Two Toms on 3rd and union, Al Di La on 5th and president or Blue Ribbon on 5th and 1st street. -

it's german/austrian and REALLY good.
but it's on 7th avenue at 14th street...

but I hear the entrees are good (they look good!), and they have dessert, wine, beer. -

Unfortunately when I do a search it turned up a bunch of random restaurants, not neccessarily in the location I want nor necessarily the type of restaurants I am looking for. I thought posting something more specific might get me specific results -

My vote goes to Eurotrip. Steinhoff has a better ambiance, but Eurotrip's food is insanely good, and it sounds like that's what you're concerned about here. The Halusky (it's basically little dumplings in cheese... kinda like dumpling mac and cheese) and Langosh (sp? It's like pizza on fried funnel-cake like bread) might kill you, but you'll die happy. A friend of mine also referred to their burger as the best they've ever had. Also recommended are any of their sausages and/or pierogies. Wash it down with a Krusovice. Otto, the owner is a great guy, and the bartenders are friendly. -
I second the Eurotrip recommendations. If you're going to cheat on your diet, that's the place to do it!

I am actually going to go to Eurotrip tonight. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try Steinhoff at another time, but there seems to be a consensus that Eurotrip is actually very good.

I went and couldn't agree more. The food was fantastic. The wine was strong, just the way I like it! -
While I definitely second the recommendation to read the 1,000,000 restaurant threads on this site, I'll bite:
If you want exemplary food, Al Di La is your first destination, with Tempo and Blue Ribbon a close second. For more laid-back fare, and some great drinks, there's Alchemy. you can bring your veggie friends to S'Nice and have a great lunch, even if you're a meat-eater. Press 195 has re-opened as a leaner, meaner sandwich machine. Finally, no restaurant in Park Slope really makes you feel the spirit of this community, and has more love and warmth poured into it, than Bogota Bistro. A must. -

Al Di La, Tempo and Blue Ribbon are all great, but the OP was looking for hearty Germanic food. For that, you need to try Steinhof, esp since you've already been to Eurotrip (keep meaning to go there now that we're in SoSlo).
