Gifts for sick friend

A lot of people get very sensitive, sore skin so some really soft pajamas or a robe could work. I've also gotten people in that situation a Netflix subscription or gift certificates to a local restaurant that delivers, especially if they live alone.

My mother just went through 6 months of chemo, and her favorite things to receive were books. Not only did reading them give her something to do to pass the time, but she could also discuss the books with the people who gave them to her on the phone or when they visited.
Best wishes to you and your friend. -

Thanks, Flexi. These are great gifts!

Bought the "Making Cancer My Bitch" t-shirt. ;-) There will be time for more gifts, as well.

might sound cheesy, but the best gift is staying in touch with the person on a regular basis. know it from personal experience, unfortunately.
but hey, soft sheets and a making cancer my bitch t-shirt can't hurt!
best of luck to your friend. -
Hey LOLC, thanks. Sorry to hear you went through that. My sister had breast cancer. Cancer is a horrible, horrible disease. I will email her right now.

Lots of good suggestions so far. I like the itunes gift cert. idea if your friend has an ipod. Then she can choose some books or shows to listen to during treatment as an alternative to reading. Perhaps the voices will be like extra company and are good for when you feel too tired to keep your eyes focused on a book.
And on the staying in touch note, send postcards regularly. She can put them on her fridge or wherever and have a reminder that you car. I had a friend stuck in a far away place, and we both got a kick out the postcards I sent. It was like a hunt to find funny or strange postcards and he knew I was thinking of him. I've found lots of strange (and I think in a funny way) postcards at Housing Works bookstore on Crosby. They have a little box of them at the check-out counter that I always go through when there.
You sound like a good friend, danielle.

i second the comfy hat suggestion; they certain came in handy for my mom, who's finishing up treatment now.
at least until it gets hot, then comfy bandannas.
depending on her appetite, fancy-pants ice pops might be a nice treat. if she's feeling real good, maybe find a way to ship her some gelato from the neighborhood? (might be a mighty big if, though)
beset of luck. -
Thanks, everyone. All the help is much appreciated.
OpposumQueen - thank you for your suggestions (and for your lovely compliment). I read your post and went to the 2 drawers of cards that I have bought just "in case" and the first 6 cards I pulled out were appropriate to send to her. I'm going to put them by the door and send out one card every so often.
Also, Flexi, my friend got the t-shirt (already) and says that she is going to proudly wear it to her next chemo session. I bet the nurses love the shirt!
I will be sending more gifts, including an ipod gift certificate and possibly a book from my own collection that I've already read so we can talk about it.
Everyone's help is much appreciated. Have a great weekend! -
glad she enjoyed it. i also like the one that says "Chemosabe"

If your friend is the spiritual type, you could create a wellness vision board for her that helps her to keep a positive focus on her journey toward being cancer-free. If you've never made a vision board before, you can google it and there are websites that show ones other people have made. Best wishes for your friend!

Thanks!
Howdy, Stranger!
