  • Doesn't NY Methodist have a terrible reputation? My pediatrician (as well as many people I know) have warned me to steer clear of that place.

Im surprised to hear that. I really love Methodist Hospital. I think it is a better hospital than LICH (on Atlantic and Hicks). I gave birth there and was so well taken care of. My son's pediatrician is affiliated with that hospital and the only time (thank goodnes) I had to take my son in for an emergency I found the emergency room staff to be extra attentive to myself and my son.

Maybe you are lucky or there is a lot of exaggeration. There are lots of horror stories about Methodist and their ER. We had a very negative experience there, as well as several friends, and my sister. And then (take this for what it is worth) there was a string that went on and on and on and on the Park Slope Parents board several months ago of horror stories about Methodist and their ER. Their PR person got involved and had a community meeting to try to rectify the list of problems that came up. I even had a friend who fell and broke her leg almost in FRONT of MEthodist and she refused to go to their ER. She crawled into a car service and went in to the city because her doctor friend warned her to avoid Methodist!

Thanks for the heads up - I will definitely take that into consideration next time I need to go there.
  • There really aren't any good hospitals in Brooklyn, but there are many that are way worse than Methodist. Woodhull, for instance, is a bunch of assassins in white!

I agree I wouldn't step foot in Woodhull or Wyckoff Hospital, Brooklyn Hospital or Coney Island. My choices always were Methodist and Long Island College. I was not at all happy with Maimonides (sp?) but on paper they are supposed to be a great hospital.
  • thanks for all the replies. i'm surprised, i thought they were a good hospital. does anyone have any suggestions? do you go to hospitals in the city? how does that work out in an emergency situation?
  • I always thought maimonides is good thats all i know of :p.
  • Yeah-there have been some issues with the Methodist ER-but, not with Methodist itself-some people get carried away. methodist is fine-try Dr. Clark Lopez-he is a general practioner with rights at Methodist and is consistently voted one of the best doctors in NY year after year.

After my experience with their ER, I would do the same ...
