  • psychologically tough to do that, given that I live 100 paces from the EP/BM stop...but it might make sense....if it beats 45 minutes, I'm for it!
  • do you own a bike :P and a nice lock? if so bike to 7ave instead of walking.

The J will be the 4 train alternative late nights and weekends because the 4 isn't running between Brooklyn Bridge and Atlantic until the fall.
  • Candicissima wrote: My fave is the J shuttle that everyone who takes the 4 late at night or on the weekends will be getting very familiar with. Why? Because if I'm ever in Williamsburg or downtown Manhattan, that's one less train I have to take.
Whoa where is the J train near us?
  • stacey wrote: Whoa where is the J train near us?
It's going to be running on the Q line between Dekalb and Prospect Park and switching to the M route between Dekalb and Essex. Damn, I really am the only person who takes the train late at night...

Hasn't the J already been doing that on weekends?

yeah - it swaps in for the B.
  • Q. No question.
  • definitely the Q

it's no-nonsense....4 stops to union square!!!!!
and nothing beats the great views on the bridge.
(that makes up for the slowdowns in the tunnel sometimes)

    Q makes me happy : )

Possible responses when someone says "F***ing A!":

    "F*** a B, it has more holes...."

"F*** an S, it has more curves...."

    "F*** a Q, it has a nice tail...."

    (sorry)
  • why does the 2/3 always have tons of homeless folks, people selling something, people begging for money, and lunatics? since I mostly stick to the B/Q, I always wig slightly when I'm on the 2/3 and have to endure the endless interruptions to my ipod-listening/book-in-nose facsimile of privacy. is it because the 2, especially, is a longer line?

Maybe because the 2 has the long benches that one can lie down on?

so does the B ... (I've thought about that)

my current theory is that evil things like to be compressed. since the irt trains are narrower, evil smells and sounds like to congregate there, leading to stinky and loud folk riding the train more often, and staying on for longer periods of time.
  • I've thought about this too while traveling to visit the girlfriend who lives in the Yukon territory (morningside heights). I think the 2/3, since its the only train that goes to both penn station and times square, is a particularly popular tourist and suburban commuter line, so it makes for a more lucrative trip for beggars and such.

The long benches theory is interesting, I've never really considered that. I've seen people stretch out in some unique and exciting ways on the Q train, though.

That said, if heading way far north, I find it a lot easier to take the Q to times square and then transfer to the 2/3 rather than taking the 2/3 all the way there. It's a bit of a pain in the ass because it means more walking (both in PH and in the Times Square subway station) but it generally saves 15 minutes or so.
  • Q ... when i need to get there fast.
    2/3 ... when i forget my umbrella.
