I was there coolin' with my wife-n-child. We were the ugly ones.BrookFetish wrote: ...were you?
My fiance and I were out on the patio until about 7.45 - then we moved to the bar.
Did you see us? Did we see you? -
Ahh, yes: Until 8 p.m. I was sitting on the patio in the corner with a couple friends, munching a chicken sandwich and wearing unfortunate white shoes and ratty jeans held together with only the slightest shred of dignity.

Damn you! I said call me if you were gonna stay past 7:30, sucka... I was off my bike and showered by then! Thanks for the pic of the cheese fries though, mmmmm! Hope the service was better since I wasn't with ya!

y'all need to be more aggressive in your DH/Brooklynian stalking attempts.

Hmmm, that might be the case! I'm going to have to go back to Awesomer School. Seriously though, I think the people at Soda do not think I'm too awesome, they give us craptastic service when I am there with Brookfetish and his woman, but when they go without me, the place rolls out the red carpet and they drink for free (which is a big mistake on Soda's side, since BFet and his woman can put 'em down!)
He must not be awesome enough. -

Yeah, maybe he should organize a happy hour or something. -

Maybe I should quit making excuses and go to one of the happy hours. -

No really, you should organize one. We, the mods, have retired from that. -

What exactly is it about Soda that you people like so much?

Cider on tap in the pint glass and the burgers and wings. -
Ahh. Ok. I feel you on the cider. Don't eat burgers and wings, but I'm sure they're good. The rest of the food I've eaten there sucks my rather large huevos. People are really addicted to that place. I'm not saying I never go, but jeez.

I hear you on the food, but for some reason the place is pretty cool. It's just a laid back bar really and now with the garden open, it's twice as nice. Despite what Brookfetish will tell you, the service there blows (at least when I'm there, so we attribute it to me) and I'm not a super fan of the food either, but you go there to drink, food on the side, right?
It is a cool place, despite all of that and it's an easy location and not filled with fratboys. -
I love the:
really good cider on tap (other places have cider, no one has this stuff - it's not sweet at all and really light and nice)
a halfway decent sauv. blanc
the garden
the burger or hot dog or pierogies (fried) or pizza
the really cool group of regulars
the whole center-of-the-universe thing
also, I saw someone come into soda on sunday afternoon with a cigar and a book. he went out back and left maybe an hour later. WAS THAT ONE OF YOU?! hrmm.   -
Yeah, I guess Soda's not horrible. At least not as bad a Moe's. And the cider is dope, I'll admit.

cigar guy was not me. i've been wondering if smoking one back there is acceptable. even though people smoke butts back there, i get the feeling that i'd get horrible looks if i lit up a cigar.

Soda should offer a discount to card-carrying "Grand Masters."
On a different note, I'm surprised to see so many people drink Cider! -
I first discovered Woodpecker cider at Daily Planet bar in the W. Village back around '91, then I moved to Ciderjack for a minute, tried Woodchuck (so-so), tried a few others, then settled on Original Sin. It's really good stuff. But my heart belongs to Woodpecker.

I used to drink it when I was in England back in the 90s, people made fun of me saying it was what the kids under 18 drank. It's funny how people drink differently across the pond. -
Seriously. If people enjoy a dry wine, why wouldn't they jump at the chance to drink a dry cider? Cider is also useful for getting the unsuspecting ladies drunk. Moo-hoo-wah-hah-hah! Just kidding.

i was actually at soda that thursday night as well ALSO on the patio.. only at 10pm. sandra dee & i were there together.
-
I popped in there Saturday afternoon, whupped from shopping and in need of lunch and a drink, but there wasn't a single free seat on the patio and I didn't see anyone I knew, so I wandered off. We need more happy hours so that I can meet folks to glom onto when Soda's packed.

when I was there on sunday for my brunch of cider and a burger, I heard that saturday afternoon was a madhouse.
and happy hours - the problem is people don't show up. we used to get a decent core group of around 7-8 people with other folks coming early and leaving early and then some coming late and staying late. so if someone wants to commit to showing up and putting up a table tent, I'll show up when I get out of my wednesday evening class. I got tired of hanging out at the bar alone waiting for someone, anyone to show up.

Yeah, my problem with the happy hours is that they're always on Wednesdays, which usually don't work for me. I was so happy there was one on a Friday a couple of weeks ago!

yeah - I can't get to Soda until about 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, so I can't even be there during happy hour when the cider is a mere $3 a pint!
but I don't know what days are good for people. or if people are even interested anymore. -
Subject: Toli, open a dedicated pizza joint!
the reason why i keep on going back to soda time after time is....
*** the best ever thin crusted pizza!! *** - with mushrooms is my fave...yumm!
personally, amorina's doesn't even compare to this!
soda's pizza is sooo good...im getting hungry right now just thinking about it.
oh by the way...the beer selection is good too....although they had at one point this great blueberry beer (i know it sounds odd) but it was pretty good...but they don't have it anymore...does anyone know the name of it??
