Flatbush Farms

Went here for the first time yesterday. There are two storefronts, one more of a restuarant, one more bar, and a HUGE LOVELY patio with tables and chairs and surrounding brick walls with ivy. The beers were pricey but great selection ($8 for Six Points). The inside is really beautiful too, but for this season, get thee to the patio! Went for a special crawfish boil so did not try the regular menu, but can't wait to go back.

  • It's become a neighborhood standby in a few short years. Some very good simple menu items (good burger, french dip sandwich, soups are interesting and delicious), and they handle the more complex dinner dishes well. I do find the options somewhat limiting and do think it doesn't reaches the heights of a James or Bussaco.

The bar area's terrific, though, and one of the best places in the 'hood for a drink. Did my wife's birthday there last winter.

How we can help them get rid of the awful new Gerry's Liquor sign next door is another question... :)

I do find it interesting that there are neighborhood standbys that even folks who live in the neighborhood for years can go a long time without ever stepping foot in. I've never been to Convivium or Sheep Station, for example, and can't give any reason why.
  • The bar space is nice and we've had several well-attended Brooklynian happy hours there.

But the food just isn't as good as it was before their first chef left.
  • But the patio! Ohhhhh the patio!!!!!
  • The Bar(n) used to be one of my favorite spots in the nabe, but over the past few years the quality of everything from food to service has gone downhill. I still hold their French Dip as a top sandwich in the area, but nothing else really stands out. Haven't been back in awhile actually due to the horrible service we had last time, waiting 30 minutes to even be noticed. Great patio though.
