Some ProHoâ„¢ Graffiti
I had to walk quite a ways to go move my car early this morning, and on my walk, I snapped some photos... ergo, lo-res cameraphone pix...

I've walked past this large Pet Bird stick-up a hundred times and somehow never noticed it... I guess because its up high, above eye-level. This is on Vanderbilt Ave near Soda Bar.

Heading down Bergen Street, I passed all the graf-covered warehouses...

Note the crazy profile-of-a-person stick up to the immediate left of the yellow/blue star...

Closeup of said stick-up and star...

You know what is so great Rhodamine is there are some tags on the corner of Underhill and Bergen and also where that paste up is of some of the most well-known graffiti writers in NYC. One of them was just inducted into the graffiti hall of fame. You can see some serious writers who walk that path to check out these tags. This neighborhood and a little further up is where some of the best writers in graffiti history came from.

totally. and im digging all the soler/goya stuff around, too. ive seen so much good stuff, yet dont always have my camera handy, unfortunately.
who i have no love for, though, is the toy/tagbanger that keeps going over much superior shit with the tag "Buzz". that guy is lame. once, we passed him while he was trying to put his crappy tag on a lamp-post and he cat-called my wife. hah. lamer. -

Subject: Idiots
Obviously you guys don't own; hence not responsible.
Anyone who finds graffiti appealing is advocating criminal behavior.
I've been riding the subways since I've been 12 (cieca 1983) and back when I was riding them, my boys were tagging up (IRT). The tags are nothing more than gang related territorial branding.
One gang would tag-up and then some other gang would tag over them.
When the word went out and the individual was identified (Tagging over the other) then the hunt was on.
This behavior is childish and if these guys wanted to actually display their artisitc expressions they'd find some other medium other than a taxpayers property.
Man, am I glad that the 80's subway vernacular (Seen on Deathwish among many older flicks) is a thing of the past.
PS. Is the mid-west that f**kin boring that you guys find these criminal collages interesting to chat about? Long live communism -

no, "guest", but when you post anonymously, and say knee-jerk things like:
--Obviously you guys don't own; hence not responsible.
--Anyone who finds graffiti appealing is advocating criminal behavior.
--tags are nothing more than gang related territorial branding.
--This behavior is childish
--find some other medium other than a taxpayers property.
--you guys find these criminal collages interesting to chat about
no one takes you seriously.
i mean, we know that *everything* with graf on it is "taxpayers property", eh? and that if you like something, that means youre advocating criminal behavior... whatever. i mean, you obviously came here to rabblerouse and stir up some "anonymous" drama. tell us who you are, and stop being a generalizing, aggressive ass, or go find somewhere else to play.
also: use a freaking name, for gods sake. no one takes any anonymous comment seriously, you know? -
Guest you are a douche bag
-
heh heh heh, i was going to say something about how "guest" + (inflammatory+posts) = troll. but alex aptly handled the situation.
i'm glad to see that graf is coming back some. over the last 8 years or so, i've noticed that my random encounters with graffiti have been rather dissappointing. most of the good stuff is now commissioned, and my god some of it is pretty breathtaking. but i miss the days of just walking or driving somewhere and seeing a beautiful piece of work where there was just derleliction before, and knowing that the artists risked something to put it out there for us. -
Commissioned art is acceptable, but not the shit you post. It's unacceptable. Go down to Atlantic and Smith where there is an array of graffiti murals on construction fences. Now that's art.
Encouraging graffiti and hoping for a renaissance of it is similar to the sweat hog mentality.
I nominate alex, rhoda and the rest of your criminal advocating assess as the F-Troop (Fuck-up Troop).

Which office are you talking about that they don't currently hold? President, Senate Majority Leader, Speaker of the House, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Governor, Mayor?
Unless you're talking about the City Council or the Assembly? Public Advocate?
Do you even understand what you're talking about? -
Oh I'm talking about the office that bans websites dedicated to self-employed ear-wax (Like yourselves) that walk in their pajamas in their rental apartment posting irrelevant issues

Dear Guest,
I can't PM you since you don't have an account, so this is your warning.
You appear to be posting a lot without having very much productive to say. I've never deleted anything off of here that I wasn't requested to (e.g. double posts), but I'm willing to start. Yes, we track IPs, so I can delete your posts and not those of other guests. However, I had other ideas of how to spend my lunch hour.
I think the other posters have made it pretty clear what is acceptable behavior, so I'll leave it at that.

Note to other users: I can't really delete trollish posts you've responded to, so just stop responding... -

what would be nice would be if someone would delete/remove/inactivate the guest account, for gods sake
-
Just so you know, there is no "guest" account. phpbb allows you to post without logging in and you can put any name you like, but most people forget and end up as Guest. This was useful when people were having login problems.
I believe it's possible to turn off posting for non-logged in users, but I think only the site admin (Andy) can do that, not mods. I can look into it. In fact, I will start a thread about whether this is a good idea. -

yeah, i meant stop anonymous posting. it would make people log in, it would stop all this nonsense of logouts coming back and having to say "guest = me" for the thousandth time, etc...
its a simple option in phpbb, but yea, only the maintainer can change it.
i, for one, think that my experience on this forum would be vastly improved if i never saw the word "guest" again. im sure many would agree.
thanks, btw 8) -

dear board...ignore mr. facist guest...he's only here b/c he probably got booted from every board on the net, so now he's got to get his "wood" on a small community board. -
that second van sort of reminds me of the koko's van, which was a super dodgy chinese restaurant (now defunct) in syracuse. it was covered in graf, just like their food was covered in grease and msg. good times.
the world needs more decorated vans like that. -

This is not the case for all, I was riding the trains as a child and yes some of the tags were an eyesore but sometimes a car would roll in with some really nice work on it. I think you are also confusing graffiti and tagging, I dont think they are really the same thing, graffiti is art, tagging is pissing on as many trees as possible. I really miss it and it bet its only a matter of time before someone gets the brilliant idea to allow a few subway cars to be designated as canvases for approved graffetti.

I guess theres always some people who will keep it real, and other talentless fucks that will screw it up for everyone, just like on this board. -
Captain Marvelous,
I'd like to hear from you when your car, home (I doubt you own any of the former) or anything you value is used as a canvas for these idiots who display their so-called art.
Sounds like you've been a spectator all your adolescent years. Let's keep it that way.
I'd like for this idiot who photographs her images (I saw her this morning on my way to work right beside that auto-wreck. Can't leave it alone can you) to ask the building and car owners what their feelings are about this art. -

1. ive never seen a graf writer write on a private home or car. or church. those are sort of no-nos for graf writers, and 99.9% respect that code.

2. her? im not a "her", and no, i wasnt anywhere near that wreck, so youre a tad off base there, buddy.
3. mod: i reccommend ban for this guest's ip, as the knee-jerk namecalling like "idiot", and sentiments like "I doubt you own any of the former" are coming off as aggressive.
thanks. -

That's OK, I would rather see the posts and call him a douche bag then see the same opinions all the time. -
WTF are you writing?
You're showing us images of properties and cars with graffiti and now you're telling me that it doesn't exist and that there is a code?
Please elaborate on these codes because the anti-graffiti task force is unaware of this and I'm curious to know if you received a response from the property owners. Did they fund these vandals or did they receive a letter of permission?
And if you find my posts unsatisfactory, then don't respond or read them. I am often the blame for your low will power
