Block Party?
Alright, so I contacted Community Board 8 about the nuances of obtaining a block party permit in Crown Heights. Heres the response:
Ideas that pop into my head are:
- Space for local business/restaurant owners to sell their goods
- Mini stage w/ PA for bands
- DJ
- Alcohol...
An event like this will certainly result in:
- Increased visibility for this website and the nabe
- Potential improvement of relations among residents
- An opportunity to meet your neighbors
Just so you know, she said I'd have to get a petition to do it on my block, but maybe there is an active block association elsewhere in PH?
What do you think?

Would anyone have interest in this? We could change the location to be a little more central to everyone. Also, I'm sure between us, we have enough resources to make this a really cool event!
You will have to get a petition with addresses and signatures of the residents that live on Classon Avenue between Prospect Place and St. Marks Avenue since there is not an active block association in that area. You can pick up the Street Activity permit from our office at 1291 St. Marks Avenue (between Rochester and Buffalo Ave.) The permit will have to be filled out with a money order for $15.00 made out to NYC Dept.of Finance .
The permits are first come first serve. You have to get it in early. It takes 60 days to process the application.

Dan - I am on Underhill bet. Dean and Bergen and I tried to set up a block party last year and they gave me the same bs. I did get the petition signed by my block and I have to get over to Community 8 soon. If you guys can pick a date I am willing to put it on the application. But you have to get back to me soon otherwise I am picking a week at the end of June, or the weekend of July 4. -
I'm always down! I'm sure someone knows- IS it legal to drink at a block party? I've only been to the family fun-type block parties... if it is...
I'll be sure to bring some bottles o' scandal! -
Alright, so you have the petition for this year?
On NYC's website, it says to submit the application to the CB 90 days in advance, so that they have 30 days to "review" it, then 60 days for the city agency.
What about July 8th or 15th? -

I have to get it in as soon as possible because CB8 told me the City only allows 3 street closures per weekend and it is first come first serve.

Either day is good for me -
Hey Mods - how about making this a survey to see who would be available for those dates -
seems like a good idea to me!
-
im surprised there isnt more support for this!
-
I'm totally for it! I just don't know my schedule that far in advance to know which date will be better for me.
-
i voted 15th cause i hope to get some time free up by than. now days i'm working 7days a week. even my posting makes it looks like i dont
. -
The 15th sounds like a better bet as anyone that may go out of town for the 4th of July may not be back by the 8th...
-
I will be there if it is one the 15th. Jesus Pants might be the order of the day.
