Blockbuster - 15th and 5th ave...going out of business?

Was wondering about that, too. But have no further information.
However - El Tapeo (on Bergen) has definitely folded. -
I can't believe there are still any brick and mortar video stores that are still opened, so, i would not be shocked by this at all.
-
They are antiquities.
-
judging by the number of red envelopes I see in people's hands.... this is of no surprise.
-
Virgin Megastore has already closed its Times Square location, and is in the process of closing its Union Square one. ...so, yea, its about time for blockbuster to close.
-
Yes, blockbuster is definitely closing stores...just wondering if this one was going down...and if so, what would replace it

Here's some more Blockbuster details...looks like they all may go down soon.

I love watching movies and have always hated video stores. They always had light that was offensive (flourescent.. very white) that gave me the feeling of let's cast lots of light on this because perhaps someone might steal. Of course that was impossible because the video was not in the box anyway.
The selections were usually main stream and pathetic.
I have been a member at Netflicks for years and it keeps getting better and better.. huge data base, streaminglive to your computer and now to yout TV. So I don't mourn the loss of any video store. -
this reminds me of when blockbuster did this to a lot of the mom & pop video stores many years ago. karma is a b****

It's not like blockbuster scammed some widowed old woman out of her nest egg of a video store. Blockbuster systematically (as skilled corporations do) made fair and reasonable offers to individual and groups of video stores.
They bought each one out at fair prices and without that much undo pressure (at least in the beginning). It's called a roll up strategy - you buy up poorly managed and under performing companies and then leverage your own management expertise and economies of scale to deliver a superior and cost advantaged product to the customer. You should thank them... I've never been in a blockbuster so I owe no praise personally.
As for Netflicks... that ain't karma... that's the inevitable advance of technology to once again, deliver a superior product to the customer. The smart money got out of blockbuster years ago. -
Sometimes video stores are good, though, if you want a quick movie. Reel Video on St. Marks/5th Ave is a pretty good store and they also have $2 rentals on Wednesdays.
-
The video store on 7th ave and 8th st rules- all rentals are $2 or $2.50 (cant remember) and the woman who works there is hilarious. They're all overnight, though!

Yes, thank you, Veets, you're back in the game. -
Well, Raw... I have nothing more to say on the topic so I guess I am out of the game.
