Subject: yes i heard something
thought it was in my dream though. but it was as you described. i live 1blk from fulton. -
i am on lefferts at grand. heard it right about 4:30, loud - i was guessing it was on fulton or atlantic. didn't hear any shouts or anything. then about 15-20 minutes later heard about 5 or 6 police/ambulance/fire headed west of here. (not great response time if it was for that).
then, at about 5am I heard the most hauntingly beautiful singing - not words, just tonal. it was stunning. my husband heard it too - he thought it was in his dream. walked around the neighborhood this morning and didn't see anything... -

As far as the response time is concerned, the police are not Psychic so they can only respond when someone makes them aware that theres someting going on. Most people hear gun fire and ignore it unless it involves them directly. Lets not be so hard on the NYPD , Our precinct is working with a very limited amount of officers. If you really want to make a difference write to Ray Kelly and ask him for more officers.

Subject: if you heard tonal singing
it was possibly from one of the nearby mosques.. their song prayers are very loud & resonant -

Anon- you are right about that, I thought twice about writing it since I couldn't even be sure the sirens were in response to the shots, and I often see cops walking down Fulton, so there is a presence and they are doing a good job in an extremely difficult position (I really have no idea even what it might be like).

I think the best thing to do is to attend community board meetings, and block association meetings to ensure that we are all working towards the same end.
Heynow, thanks for the note, it might have been the mosque right down the street, but it was a single female voice and I could have sworn she was walking down our street. Again, haunting and beautiful.
Did anyone find out anything about the shots we heard? -
Well the CB meetings are good to go to but they don't really cover the Public Safety issue like the precinct council meetings do. I try to post the meeting date and times every month but I don't get many responses. Here is the info for the next meeting. The Commanding Officer is usually there as well as reps from the DA's office and more.
