Running in PS area

Anyone a member of the various Brooklyn running clubs (PPTC, BRRC, others?). I run for NYRRC and want to join a local running club. Anyone have any insite to which one is better/more organized/holds more races/weekly runs?
Please PM me or respond to this post. Also, same goes for any cycling clubs in the neighborhood.

Thanks :)

My impression is that Brooklyn Road Runners is for the hard-core runners and the PSTC group is more relaxed. But I could be wrong. I joined PSTC a while ago but haven't made it to any of their meetings. I emailed them asking some questions about their group runs, but they didn't respond, which was a little offputting. They don't seem to be very organized about getting out their newsletter and updating their website.

There aren't many races in Brooklyn, mostly just the occasional 5K in the park. If you want races, you're pretty much limited to NYCRR's races in Central Park -- very fun but crazy-crowded, as you probably know.

It depends what you're looking for as well as your level of speed and competitiveness. Take a look at each club's website - pptc.org and brooklynroadrunners.org to get an idea of the level of runners in each club. Neither is as competitive as CPTC, Warren St, GNY, NY Flyers, etc, and their coaching schedule is limited, but each club has *some* quality runners and a lot of nice people. If you're looking for comeraderie, then either one will serve you well. If you're looking for a lot of organized workouts and a lot of competitive runners, then you'll be disappointed. PPTC is adding some coached workouts shortly, so perhaps that's changing. Also, the President of PPTC is a great lady, who i'm sure would welcome any questions.
  • I guess what I'm looking for is occasional group runs that I can pop into when I have time, and a team I can race with, or at least feel part of when I am racing ---which I view as a very individualistic sport. I don't really want traning advice, per say (unless it is casual), since I have no aspirations to become a pro runner. I run for fun, you know. I'm sub seven minute pace for most things under half-mara, but I want to have a small group of people to run with, at an easy pace, on occasion throughout the week in the summer and maybe sometimes on weekends, nothing overly serious or binding. Just like you said, for the comeraderie.
  • Anyone planning a run tonight? Nice weather for it! Let me know if you are and where/when you're meeting up...
