What kind of trainer?
Personal fitness?
Dog?
Cat? -
Personal trainer - fitness.

Brooklynbound, my roommate is a pilates instructor who offers private sessions. She could even come to your home. I will check on the cc status.

Go to the 5th Avenue Fitness Collective on 5th, between Bergen and Dean, and speak with Andy, Carla, or Nathan. It'll be the best expense you've made on your own perosnal fitness in your life. They helped me change completely, and are now doing the same for many of my friends. Just go.

Thanks!

I know people if you are still looking. PM me.

Do you know their price range and what you get for it? I walk by here numerous times a day since its close to my place, but am never sure exactly what they offer. Continual personal trainers free with membership (yeah right), what kinds of classes and equiment do they have? Any info appreciated. Thanks. -
They offer personal training packages. Depending on what level you get, access to classes and nutritional counseling are included. I know they do packages of 3, 10, 24, 48, and 100. Their prices are very comparable to what you'd pay at a gym, only you get a ton more personal attention paid to you.
They have "fit club" classes which encompass a variety of cardio and simple, tried-and-true exercises which burn calories and help build lean muscle. They're a lot of fun. Sometimes, if turnout is low, they can practically become a free session for you. I know they've also got some sort of kickboxing class and stretching classes.
As far as equipment goes, the equipment is pretty standard. They emphasize form more than anything else in building muscle, so you're not going to see a lot of LifeFitness or Precor lifting machines. I spent five years using those things, though, and they are correct when they say you can only get so far when you take form out of the equation.
Honestly.....walk in there one day. Talk to Andy, Nate, or Carla. They are INCREDIBLY nice people who aren't going to hassle you about a thing. It's just not the kind of people they are. If you like it....great. If not? Nothing lost. And if you sign up, PM me so I get a free session or two out of it.

Thanks for all the info. One of the biggest reasons I have not gone in to talk to someone in the past is because it is a small place and I hate feeling cornered and pressured when I really just want to look around, ask some questions, and then make my own decision.
I'll take you for your word though and go in and talk to one of those people the next chance I get...just know that if they pressure me I'm comig after you...kidding.
I am fairly young (not to sound like an ass...it's not name calling or anything offensive since I said it to myself, right), had serious back surgery a few months ago, from which I am still recovering, and was always very physically fit before my injury. That said, I'm not worried about those LifeFitness weight lifting machines seen in every other gym. I am looking for a gym that cares about its members, teaches them how to work with their bodies, etc.
From your description this sounds like it might be a good fit. I will definitely check it out soon. And, I'll be sure to PM you if I join. Everyone loves getting a deal on things they do anyways. Thanks for the response and I'll let you know. -
I know an amazing trainer who can take paypal. PM me. Trust me, this guy is fantastic!

Honestly, go in there. There are few small business owners in this neighborhood who are as nice as Andy. If he gives you the typical gym "hard sell," I'd be shocked. Also, like any small business right now, they need your business a lot more than Crunch or NYSC does.

I've seen them be very careful as far as injuries, though, and they're very good as far as working with parts of the body that are weaker than others. I used to have a huge problem with calf cramps on my left leg that are just about gone now because of my work with them.
It sounds like a fit to me. -
I'd have to second the vote for Andy and the crew at 5th Ave Fitness Collective. I have been afraid to go to a regular gym because I have back and knee problems and they have been very careful with me. I feel they really hear me when I tell them stuff about my body, which I've found is not always the case with physical therapists, etc. I've been working hard, but have never felt better. I recommend them highly. And they do take credit cards.

glad to hear, altobarb.
oh, by the way, my last session was about two months ago and, with what i picked up from them as far as my own workouts, i haven't gained a pound since i stopped. i'll definitely be back when funds allow and i start feeling burned out on my own workouts.
there are only two businesses in this neighborhood that i will gladly sound like the worst shill for, and this is one of them. -
We accept all forms of payment at our facility in downtown brooklyn or for in-home training. (i.e. money order, check, credit card, EFT (electronic funds transfer), monthly either for our bootcamps and classes http://www.theshinyclub.com/bootcampsclasses or our 1 on 1 private training.
