Hey All,

I had my car stolen a couple weeks ago on Dahil between Albermarle and Church. I had assumed that it was immediately taken to a chop shop and dismantled for parts. BUT it turns out that it's been getting tickets all over Kensington and Midwood! Someone is actually audacious enough to still be driving it around, and within a 3 mile radius of my apartment.

I was willing to accept that it was stolen and chopped, but the idea that someone is still using it nearby is driving me nuts! I know it's a long shot if anyone happens to see a black 4 door Acura Integra with Maryland tags 4AMT88, it's stolen please call the police.

    So... I know, I'm sure you have your excuses... but I'd like to invite you to register your car in NY and pay for the roads you use!!

    I'm sorry, but I am soooo tired of crap like this. There would probably be another $15 million in the state coffers JUST for registration fees if all of the PA, NJ, MD, DE and NC douche bags would just follow the law.

    But I guess that's fine...

    I would like to thank all those who responded to this post....I have been home all week recovering from surgery and I love when people get all cranky on this board... I do not like reality shows on TV but for some reason this really makes me laugh.

    mangleface-- I hope you get your car back in one piece... and then you change your registration...

    I must admit, that's the first thing I thought of when I read about the Maryland plates.

    But I would give the OP some leeway. They could be here only for school or perhaps just moved here. If they are scamming the system then flame away!

    I'm sure people will flame away over this, but DANG - it would help NYC with both parking problems AND more income coming into the city's coffers!

    (...says the woman who hasn't owned a car in 15 years! Heh.)

    Insurance fraud aside, I feel your pain. Similar thing happened to me, they racked up $1500 in tickets before stripping the car and dumping it on the street. The sheriff found what was left of my car and sold it at auction for the outstanding tickets all this was revealed to me when I went to register my new car and they told me I was responsible for the tickets and couldn't register another vehicle until the tickets were paid off. It took more than a dozen trips to the city attorney's office to straighten it out - would have been less but I kept getting thrown out for yelling and throwing things. Good luck, and knock off the insurance fraud.

    computers... databases... handheld ticket printers... they ought to be able to know...

    especially when you are a parking tick person, and you get credit for ticketing cars ...not finding stolen ones.

    especially when you are a parking tick person, and you get credit for ticketing cars ...not finding stolen ones.

    the systems are just not integrated like that. the scanner they use on a car's registration sticker isn't connected to the nypd's stolen car database.
    btw i imagine their database to be a collection of post its.

    well the car was recovered... or what was left of it. It was basically a shell. The best part is you have to pay for "storage" because the car was sitting in a tow lot for 3 days before they called me.
