Accident on 5th and Douglass?

Does anyone know what happened this morning on 5th and Douglass? The front of the old Park Slope Deli has been knocked through, but it doesn't look like a fire.

  • "The shuttered Deli in the Slope location at Fifth Avenue and St. John's Place in Park Slope was the site of a "good morning" car crash around 9 a.m. today. Early reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle had a heart attack behind the wheel; he's currently in critical condition. A report over the news wire doesn't mention any other passengers in the vehicle, and it doesn't seem that any pedestrians were hurt. A manager at another Deli in the Slope location on Butler Street tells us that this Fifth Avenue location has been closed for about a year.

The tipster who sent the above photo says she happened on the scene "only a few minutes after the crash occurred. The photo was taken just before these men began smashing the windows to access passengers. I left before I saw more, but could smell the burning chemicals for several blocks."

No, Whynot, I wasn't the driver!
  • jeeze, people make me out to be mean and bored.

    I'm just bored.
  • close call for Bogota....wow.

awful about the driver as well.

even though i know they own another spot on 4th, i've heard that the deli had been left for dead for months.....apparantly, there was still food inside there that was never packed up, etc. nasty.
  • A car lost control before 9am. Maybe a heart attack
