a lil' more positivity.... — Brooklynian

a lil' more positivity....

Subject: a lil' more positivity....

Walking down New York ave on this beautiful day I experienced a lot of good vibes and friendliness, even one guy asking me how i like living here and telling me stories about when he first moved here 30 years ago...anyways I get to Lincoln place, the corner with the notorious gang graffiti on several buildings, and low and behold a crew from the NYPD was there painting over all the scrawlings...finally! and it looks damn good already even though they were not yet completed....

  • I saw it on my way home from work, it looks great. I went and talked to the cops and they were making kids from the 77th precinct do community service. It makes the whole block nicer!
  • This is what I love about springtime in New York: almost everyone's in a good mood because they're so GRATEFUL after winters here.

Last time I went to the Community Meeting someone mentioned the same type of problem and the police said they should call the precinct too. There is a NYC truck that I see removing graffiti in the neighborhood. Next time I see it I will find out how they can be contacted.
  • I just came across this in the Ft. Greene forum:

the police department and the DA's office are going to start up some graffiti clean up and are looking for volunteers. Contact 718-636-6526
  • Cool... wonder if I should also call 311 about the vacant lot on my block (Bergen between Grand and Classon) full of discarded furniture and rats....
  • Yes, try it. When my wife and I used to live in Ft. Greene, she called 311 several times about a building being renovated next door to us. People would dump trash there and in a few days it would be a mini-dump. After her first call, a sanitation cop and truck quickly arrived, cleared away the mess, and slapped the owner with a fine. The dumping continued, so my wife called a second time, and the process was repeated. I surmise that the second fine was considerably steeper, as the space remained clean as a whistle thereafter.

For any CBO or Block Association that is looking for assistance in clean ups, the person to contact Ms. Adossa from the DA's office is 718-250-3370. She will supply the people for the clean ups.
