Found Young Cat - 2 - 3 Weeks Pregnant
Hi Everyone!
My gf found the cutest young cat on Bergen St. between Brooklyn & Kingston!
We took her to the vet and found out she is expecting!!! She is too sweet to be a stray that was born in the streets.
More like a house kitty who got out 3 weeks to 6 weeks ago and ended up pregnant.
If you think she is your young kitty, please email me her description at [email protected]
If her parents can not be found we will have kittens in about two months for adoption!
Send a message if you want to adopt.

The kittens will make much better pets if you let them stay with their mom for twelve weeks. Please make sure mom has a hysterctomy as soon as the vet allows it. If you can afford it or can find a rescue group who can, get the kittens surgically altered while they're still with mom, they'll heal much quicker. Both my cats were neutered as kittens and they're both been delightful pets for the last seven and a half years. My male cat came to me at twelve weeks, but my female was about six weeks old when she was found my my ex, she is a really nice cat but has some serious socialization issues. Male cat is a party animal and likes everyone. Those extra weeks with mom and sibilings make a big difference.

Subject: Kittens in 4 Months!
Thanks for the advice!
So Kittens available in 4 months! -
please read the following article on pet overpopulation http://www.sniksnak.com/overpopulation.html
and go on to read other links on pet overpopulation.
As an animal rescuer I am personally familiar with the HUGE number of homeless and adoptable animals that cannot find homes because there simply are not enough homes for these animals.
Instead they are put to sleep.
I've talked to people at the Ac&c who have to go to a room full of adorible kittens and chose large numbers to put to sleep, since there simply isnt room for them.
Letting this cat have these kittens means more animals will be put to sleep
It is far kinder to do an abortion/hysterectomy while the cat is still not too far along in the pregnancy than to let her give birth (which leads to more cats being euthanized).
PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS. YOU ARE NOT GIVING LIFE TO ANIMALS
YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO MORE ANIMALS BEING KILLED.
Harsh words but the truth.
I can still have the cat fixed at no cost to you on the ASPCA van this Friday.
Please consider this as a humanitarian gesture to save the animals.
Google "pet overpopulation"get the statistics from any source you wish. Talk to any vet or rescuer or better yet go to the AC&C and see how many pets are there waiting for adoption, but more likely getting put to sleep.
WE already have 17 kittens that we take to adoption events every weekend and cant find homes. -
Once again, thank you for your help..,
BUT we are keeping Mom and 1 kitty AND
we have found homes for the other 4 AND they all will be neutered and given shots before they are given to their new owners. -
Yes, just confirming you are letting the cat breed and have kittens even though there are thousands of cats and kittens in NY looking for homes.

SnowboardQueen, I believe your intentions are honorable. You've taken this cat in off the street, are adopting it and found homes for her kittens when they're born. But some of us in rescue can't agree with your decision. There are too many cats and not enough homes, 71%* of cats entering shelters are euthanized. In my opinion it is far better to do an abortion then let more kittens be born so cats or kittens that would be euthanized have a chance to be adopted. It's hard to do, no one feels good about it but saving cats that are already here is the important thing.

Aborting the kittens is absolutely the most humane thing to do - the last thing the world needs is more kittens! Snowboard Queen, I will pay for the spay/abortion if you'll consent to have it done. Please PM me if you'd like to discuss.

Are you people insane? I also work in Animal Rescue. The answer is to spay and neuter BEFORE pregnancy, not abort unborn kittens. If we were to use that logic across the board I guess that we would haul every pregnant woman into an abortion clinic telling her that she should just adopt children that are already here. Instead of applauding Snowboard Queen for having a heart you are trying to get her to kill kittens of the cat that she has taken in. Sometimes it is better to just give someone a pat on the back and say well done instead of forcing your views on them. I think that it is fantastic, Snowboard Queen, that you will keep one kitten with mama kitty and have found homes for the others and I trust that you will have the whole lot spayed or neutered. Thank you for having a big heart and taking in this pregnant cat. God Bless you and I wish you well.

Brit Princess, are you insane? Spaying a pregnant cat is nowhere near the same as forcing pregnant women to have abortions. I don't know what kind of animal rescue you do that you support bringing more animals into a world where millions are being euthanized every year. But it's no kind of animal rescue I would ever involve myself in.
-
SQ, it's good that you want to help the cats and I'm sure everyone here is happy that you've taken this one in, BUT I agree that spaying now is a humane option considering the extent of the local cat population.
If you had ever worked at a kill shelter or done rescue work, you'd probably have a similar view to those of us favoring the spay now option. It's hard to see so many sweet animals euthanized simply b/c there are too many to rehome, and even harder being the one to make the list of which dogs and cats, that you know so well, have to die that day.
If you want kittens around your home for just a couple of months (which is fun, I'll admit), you should consider being a foster home for a local group/shelter that has cats who have already given birth and need time in a home. There are constantly folks on the pets board here looking for fosters/adopters of cats and kittens. I'm sure there are currently plenty of places looking for someone nice enough to bring home a mama cat and her babies for a couple of months.
The ASPCA, Sean Casey, and I'm sure many others would probably love your help. -
I saw a 'lost cat ' notice on the corner of Bergen and 4th Ave yesterday though I suspect thats a recent disappearance. The lost kitty was apparently grey with white socks.
-
Dawnc,
Aw, thank you for looking out, but it's not Bergen.
She's such a small Kitty, I think she might have gone in heat and escaped, or her owners were not prepared to deal with a kitty in heat and let her go.
But if you see any more lost Kitty/young cat notices please let me know.
But, if her owners don't appear, we are planning to keep her.
Howdy, Stranger!
