Dear Brooklynians,
A a good friend of mine just kicked his girl-friend out of his apartment and now she has to go back to living with her parents. They have been going out for at least six, seven, heck even eight years, I'm not sure, and while he works, she hasn't been working for the past two years. She finally got evicted from her apartment a few months ago and kind of moved back with her parents (in the near suburbs) but then she sort of took up residency at my friends place. After a couple of weeks of her sleeping late and not looking for work he had enough and kicked her out. He told her that if she got a job he would consider moving out of his small one-bedroom apartment which he has lived in for these past 12 years and has real cheap rent, into a larger apartment with her. Now I'm not sure if their relationship is over, but it maybe.
Anyway, he keeps asking me if he did the right thing and from what little contact I have with her, she seems very reluctant to have anyone tell her what to do with her life and seems willing to let their relationship end, which I find strange.
Anyway, what do you think?

Good riddance, I say. She sounds like a looser.
-
She sounds lazy. I'd kick the moocher out, too.
-
Wow. Can't wait to read about this one in the papers.
-
Oh and the thing is, besides her lack of ambition to even have a job, they are totally made for each other. I mean they do everything together, have been doing so since they met, and all it would've taken is getting a job at McDonald's even to right the ship.
Kind of sad. -
it sounds like there wasn't a whole lot of relationship to begin with...
To kick someone out who you have been living with for 8 years after only 8 weeks of slacking doesn't seem like the whole story. -
Eh. it's none of your business. I'd say keep your opinions to yourself. If you say she's a lazy fuck and they get back together, it will come back to haunt you

No, she had her own place for like 7+ of those years, she had only been "living with him" for the past 2 -3 months or so. -
so, she began to slack as soon as she had someone to pay the rent?
...then he told her she couldn't get by on her looks alone?
Did he say either of the following:
"Moving in together was a serious step for us, but we can't get more serious until you seriously get a job"
"You may be a princess, but I'm no prince." -
dang, sounds like a lazy moocher to me, if given the chance she'll slack off soon as she becomes a permanent fixture. he should move on unless he likes to support lazy moochers.

Well, his rent is cheap but his apartment is small, not really big enough for two and he has been living alone for 12+ years. She had a place of her own and was working then got laid off, fed up with looking for work in this recession, she got evicted after owing the landlord thousands, and then she kind of "moved in" with him although he didn't really want that and her stuff was at her parents.
He has always paid the rent. She was collecting unemployment but I believe that ran out months if not years ago. -
so, what's her plan?
You state she is too good for McDonald's.
Is mommy going to rescue her?
...or can we look forward to her being in the shelter system?
...does she have the body needed to find a "prince"?
Prince: (n) a gullible male. -
I think she will have to stay with her parents in the suburbs until she gets fed up with it. But she an attractive woman so she maybe able to find that gullible male. Always easy finding a sugar daddy then a sugar momma.
I wish she would just get a job, anywhere, and they would get back together and move into a larger apartment together.
I just am amazed that someone would let not getting a job ruin a long term relationship.
Oh, and she may need to file for bankruptcy but if there ever was a time for her to do so, now is it! -
"she got evicted after owing the landlord thousands,"
WOW, says it all.
Is she related to the Hipster Grifter? -
I wouldn't call her a hipster, in fact I know she despises hipsters.
-
she sounds older than hipster grifter. She might have aged to "dippy hippy"
...back to her parents she goes!
If she is going to find a prince, she'd better act fast ....things tend to droop with age. And princes seem to believe that the person they support shouldn't droop. -
i have to ask how old is this girl or lady :P?
-
She sounds like trouble. Your friend is better off
-

Droopy poopy. Mirror mirror on the wall....How come the princes expect the appendages to defy gravity when the princesses are supposed to appreciate the saggiest saltiest sacs of them all?

If they were together for that many years and hadn't moved in with each other MUCH earlier, and hadn't considered marriage, then there musn't have been much of a relationship, maybe just a close friendship with benefits.

There goes Flo again, talking about salty balls

I can't help myself. I think it's my theme for today. I think it means I feel either salty or horny.

Because they aren't chestnuts. -

something is really wrong with your story.
You talk about her not wanting to get a job in a recession and she just got laid off. But you are saying her unemployment ran out years ago?
Exactly how long has she not been working?
All signs are pointing to her being LAZY and I will go out on the limb to say if they did ever get married, she would not hesitate to take half his stuff if a divorce were to happen. -
Well, I know she hasn't worked in at least two+ years. She didn't "just" get laid off, sorry, she was laid off two+ years ago, then collected unemployment, then the recession hit making it worse.
He knows never to commingle money, and he doesn't have much stuff anyway. -

I thought it was through thickness and thin. Even with friends, It's through good times and bad times...

I'm not supporting anyone ass unless I'm married to them and they can make the rent. fuck that. 2 YEARS unemployed??? That poor boy must have been paying for every movie, drink, you name it all those years and then she wants him to pay her rent too. SUCKA! indeed. She's not changing, she like her lifestyle, sometimes it just time to realize it wont work together.
Plus, it's obvious she's lazy, even I will get off my ass and temp or work at starbucks once my unemployment ends. -

Yeah but "bad times" implies circumstances out of your control. I wouldn't define "bad times" as adverse consequences of freely made personal choices.
Not to mention, enabling her irresponsibility by supporting her while she slacks through life is probably worse for her in the long run. She sounds like she needs to get a taste of real life and paying her own bills, etc. before she will take responsibility for her choices. -
Maybe she's disabled or needs to be evaluated. Maybe she can't function. She must have had that ......of gold.
-
I plan on not even sharing a bank account with my (imaginary) husband, nevermind paying someone's rent. DNW. Kick her arse to the curb.
