Eye Doctor in or near Park Slope?

My old eye doctor moved and I am looking for a good eye doctor in Park Slope vicinity. I wear glasses and contacts and just need someone to do my yearly eye check and prescriptions. Would prefer it if they take Davis Vision Care, but not mandatory.

    So not in Manhattan but where I work does AMAZING eye exams, can make your glasses and they take Davis. PM me if interested.

    Adam Friedland at Urban Optical on 7th Ave near corner of 9th St (next to Brooklyn Industry). Not sure what type of insurance they take

    Did you check the Davis Vision Care website for a list of providers? Let us know who is on the list.

    I take it you just want an optometrist and not and ophthalmologist.

    It's an excellent idea to get your eyes checked annually by an ophthalmologist to ensure general eye health.

    i recently had a very unpleasant experience at park west optical, on PPW.

    and i actually had a really nice experience at the optometrist and buying new glasses at costco

    I think you need to separate the "making of glasses and contact lenses" from the DOCTOR that does the eye exam. No matter what stage of your life you need a good yearly exam.

    You want the best doctor possible and then pursue the place to use the prescriptions given. I recommend Dr Weinberg. he has other office in Midwood but call Dr Din (5th ave and 8th street) and get the number to set up an appointment with Dr. Weinberg in the Slope on the 2 days he is in that ofice.

    I also had a not so good experience there. How much was the eye exam at Costco? I know the price of glasses + membership is still less than glasses other places. Lenses there for me were $99 + $18 to use my frame. Polycarbonate bifocals with AR coat

    the eye exam at costo--from a lovely optometrist who'd gotten her degree at NYU--was $60.

    i ended up there because my $500 bifocals (from park west, not why i dislike them) flew off my head on the street the other day and i stepped on them and watched the lens fly into the street. they are now cobbled together with krazy glue.

    for new frames (i chose $100 ones, most were under $50) and progressives, the cost was $249. the only downside is that they will take 7-10 business days to get there. but the price is fantastic

    We use Adam at Urban Optical to get glasses, contacts etc but I do agree you need a good eye exam w/ an ophthalmologist. I'm in the market for a new one since the one I go to will keep you waiting for over an hour past your appt.

    Re Costco, I've heard about their great prices for lenses and eye care and should check it out especially since we have no vision insurance. I was very surprised, when researching cancer drugs last year, that Costco has a huge database of drugs.

    yes, i did go to davis vision website and look up doctors. but there were like 4 billion listed and didn't just want to pick one blindly (pun intended).

    the doctor i was going to was an optometrist but besides checking my prescription he also did a pretty thorough eye exam as well. but a year ago he was charging $99 for the exam. and at his new office its now $189! shocking!

    i have no problem going to separate places for the exam vs the glasses, i just want to find a good doctor!

    i grew up always seeing an opthamologist, an MD. (my father was a phsyician, medical care for us was free, he felt that optometrists were merely opticians.)

    that said, i've been seeing optometrists for the past 10+ years and it's fine. they do a thorough exam, and if they see something awry they tell you to go to the MD.

    Yep, and hearing aids. My mom's was almost 1/2 of it was at a regualr audiologist.

    B&H still has better prices on electronics and cameras though along with knowledgeable staff and friendly service to help pick it out.

    you're going to get better prices on a lot of things--TP, paper towels, shampoo, etc--when supermarkets have good sales. for those things i buy and stock up. (storage in my apartment? don't ask).

    but for glasses, tires (unless you hit a tire sale elsewhere), caskets (though there are cheaper out there and don't be shy about looking around), you can't do much better.

    Surprised about Park West Vision...I've been going there for over 25 years and have never had a bad experience there.

    i've now had two in a row. the first one just gave me some pause about one of the new optometrists they'd hired--missing teeth, very bad grammar.

    the second was a little more obnoxious, and was in regard to getting a copy of my rx. not sure about the laws in regard to getting copies of your rx, but even if they were following them--and i don't think they were--they were difficult as hell about it, tried to make me jump through hoops, and then didn't end up giving the rx at all.

    Might as well use a recycling garbage bag. Would that be a clear or blue one though?

    Brooklynpotter - Re: Park West Vison - the only optometrist I ever saw there (and I thought the only they had) is Dr. Capetella. I've never seen any other optometrist there.

    I have to say that I've never had a bad experience with Dr. Capotela and find him to be head and shoulders above any eye doctor I've been to in the borough. It's been absolutely worth it for me to go from the northest of North Slope to Windsor Terrace for a yearly eye exam because of that place. Not to discredit someone else's bad experience, but it simply has never been mine.

    it wasn't dr capatela, who's always been very nice. it was another man they had hired.

    your business reflects you no matter what. if i hire someone to work for me and they put off customers, then there's a problem.

    between this person, and the way the receptionist acted on the phone, i felt that showed bad judgment. and it made me question going back. (and, my costco glasses cost $250. in itself, there's a reason)
