i have no such sentiments for that restaurant. the only time i ever ate there was when i didn't live in the nabe and went to see a show at bam.
incidentally, does their move to the ues mean that rents are cheaper up there, in yorkville than in fort greene? isn't that corner of the ues called yorkville? -
Yeah, that's right, although I don't know about the rents. It could be that the rent is cheaper there (which would be ironic and depressing), or that they think they can do better business there. Or, it could be something simple, like the owner lives in the UES or perhaps in Queens and is sick of commuting all the way here.
On the topic of that corner, do you know what's moving in next to the new bagel place, where that old bodega was? Also, I saw a 40 Acres & a Mule sign up on S Elliot, around the corner from there. Is there a studio there or something? I was too lazy to walk down and check it out. -
Subject: aw, i wanted to try that place out
if it has not closed yet, i will go try it.
re: that 40 acres & a mule sign... i saw that too and thought i was hallucinating. i took a wild guess and said maybe they're shooting a movie and put the sign approx. where spike's old store used to be or somethng... complete & total conjecture.
i'm curious though and so anyone who knows details please post up! -
i think his studio may have moved there. but incidentally, was driving down dekalb and that old fire house looking structure opposite the liu hospital/emergency room entrance is sporting a 40 acres and a mule banner also.
perhaps he's got two offices now?
btw, inside man was a great movie, i thought. -
The fire-house bldg is his office. I often see his sister coming out of it.

back in the day, didn't 40 acres have a store to buy memorabilia from? pehaps the 75 south elliott is the store.
btw, i googled 40 acres and a mule and a link came up with 75 south elliott as the office address. -
That must be it then. And yeah, they used to have a memorabilia store on Dekalb and S Elliot, but it went out of business a long time ago. It was called Spike's Joint.

Subject: yes the spot on the corner
of Dekalb & S. Elliott is now the location of Carol's Daughter bath/beauty products store
