Not sure about the PS post offices, but the last time I was in the Bed-Stuy post office the machine had been pulled out. When I inquired why, they said they were taking them out to revamp the offerings. I subsequently heard the machines had also been removed at the post office downtown. You may want to call before going.

I was just at the god-forsaken 9th Street Post Office. The machine works. But I had to wait on line 45 minutes to get "media mail".
The line moves horrifically slow because each clerk has to make sure that every meaningless or outdated postal regulation is inflicted on you letter. If it is not their civil service career is at risk. -
can you order that stuff online? I'm lucky that I have the PO on PPW, and they are usually easy to deal with and have short lines..
