Move over, Di Fara's. This came in through the Daily Slope e-mail:
yea. they're really goodIs it true?
i think they make the best pizza in brooklyn
here's their website: http://www.locandapeperoncino.com
it's a cheesy web site but the owner nino is real nice
he built the brick oven himself
pizza there is amazing
it's on the corner of 5th ave + St. Mark's
they have a real nice open seating,
good feng shui

I've never had their pizza. but. their pasta i fagiole (sp) is AMAZING. I'm not kidding. so delicious. guh. I've had their food many times over the last 1.5 years and enjoyed it every time. not as different as convivium - but duh. convivum is weird. this is a great restaurant to visit and then !! hit total and have some fantastic wine.

Agree on the Pasta E Fagioli (I think it's called Pasta E Fagioli a la Peproncino on the menu) - it's one of the best pasta dishes I've had locally. It has wide, thick ribbons of fresh pasta, a lot of white beans, and a nicely spicy tomato "broth"-like sauce. However, I was there on Friday and my girlfriend ordered the ravioli special - it was crunchy, undercooked and overpriced.

Wildly disappointed by the pizza (I think we were hoping for Franny's)
okay, we didn't die, but found absolutely no reason to go back.
we had pizza, salad and some mediocre wine. I thought they had too much stuff on the menu - no focus on what they could pull off well. Maybe pasta fagoli is it!
La Villa makes better pizza - we get takeout and pick it up ourselves walking the dog....
al di la makes better pasta . . . heavenly pasta
on that note, we tried Scottaditto on Union recently. It was *just okay*, which to me is a drag with al di la in shouting distance. I can cook better than them, which is not how I ever feel at al di la.
But between Peperoncino and Scottaditto, I'd go to Scottadito any day. -
we should have a park slope outing{no. not that kind}
to peperoncino and see what everyone thinks
total wine bar is right next door
and black sheep pub is a block away

Subject: RE: Pizza
I ate there about a month ago with my Mom when she was in town. I had the duck ravioli special which was good but not fantastic. My mom had some pizza which was extremely good. I haven't had a chance to compare it to many places yet but their pizza was very good. I would go back. -
Ive been to Pep several times, most recently about 3 months ago. I've never been bowled over by the pizza there. Last time I was there it was a little too burned; I usually love some charring, but this was a bit too much. I've gone back because something in me wants to like the place, but I agree with Pitu, La Villa rocks the house. Anthony's is also very good. Haven't been to Franny's... I've tried to go several times, but it seems to maintain strange opening days/hours.

love their pizza -
We make our own. Just get a pizza stone, get dough from a local pizza shop, get fresh mozzarella. Turn your oven up as high as you can. We make a white pizza with sliced tomato & fresh basil. Soooo tasty!! And it's only about $10.

Went to Pepperoncino Friday night...
We got the white beans and salmon salad thing and a pizza with mozz. proscuitto, arugula, parm, and basil. The salad was ok. nothing special, they used canned beans. the pizza was nothing special either, it was soggy in the middle and the crust had no flavor. also the proscuitto and arugula were in giant pieces which made for a sloppy dinner. It was ok, nothing terrible, but not in the top tier of local pizza. We prefer Anthony's, Franny's and Amorina for fancier pizza in the neighborhood.
Howdy, Stranger!
