Safety in Flatbush Avenue — Brooklynian

Safety in Flatbush Avenue

Hi everybody.

I'm from Spain, and next month I'm going to spend a week doing some tourism in NYC -my first time in NY-, and I will probably sleep in Brooklyn.

My question may be stupid, but I'd like to know if it's safe to walk around Flatbush Avenue -lafayette, atlantic, etc.- on a saturday around 9 p.m. with a big suitcase.

Thanks.

  • I'd recommend sticking to the sidewalks. With such a large bag, you not may be all that nimble when trying to dodge traffic.

do you know the cross-streets you will be at? Flatbush is a long avenue.
  • It's more or less in the triangle formed by Lafayette with Fulton, Nevit with Flatbush and Flatbush with Atlantic Avenue.

I think I will have to walk to make some transfer between subway stations of different lines that don't have direct transfers in the area.

Sorry for my english, I hope you understand it.

    Thanks.
  • There is always a way to transfer between lines (if you want to tell us Im sure we can direct you also). But if you get off at the Atlantic/Pacific Street train station and get out on at the exit on 4th Avenue and Pacific, there is a car service right upstairs and will probably charge you $6 to go to Fulton and Lafayette. Otherwise I think if you walk along Atlantic, Flatbush, or Fulton you should be fine. Good luck and hope you enjoy your stay in Brooklyn.
