Tempo
Eater is reporting that OTBKB is reporting that Tempo is closing. If so, that's a monumental loss for the neighborhood, as it was easily the best Italian not named "Al Di La" in the neighborhood.
It was already bad enough that we had lost Tempo Presto and it's Silician Chickpea Panelle. Now we lose the fried chickpeas entirely, as well as one of the best drinks in the neighborhood, their Maple Manhattan. I think the wife and I better get there soon to have one.

Oh, that stinks! While I didn't in any way classify Tempo as italian, I did like their food and they have been around a long time. Sad if it is true, but, considering the way of the world lately, it probably is.

Subject: How about . . .
Pannelle sandwiches are served at Ferdinando's Focacceria in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn; those & the rice balls are very good Address: 151 Union Street, between Columbia & Hicks. I'm guessing the closest train would be the F to Carroll Street. -
I'd hate to lose Tempo....I think it's one of the best restaurants in the Slope
-
BTW - Ferdinando's has been there for over 50 years. Best pannelle in BK. No Maple Manhattan - just regular Manhattan Specials. The only other REAL pannelle places are Joe's of Avenue U (thats a haul) or Gino's up on 18th Avenue in the 70s/80s. Not much left of authentic Sicilian after that.

that's too bad about Tempo. I don't know why i resisted going for a long time - but went once and had a fabulous birthday meal for my mom
-
I love Tempo. That's the second great restaurant in that location, and the second great loss.

I remember when it was Cucina when I moved here in 1997...it was the only "upscale" place on 5th Ave. -
That post on OTBKB is a little odd.
"I am guessing that they fell victim to the economic downturn with its upscale menu and vibe. Their lower priced offspring Tempo Presto is right next door. I am also wondering if Tempo Presto is closing, too."
Hasn't Tempo Presto, the 5th ave. location not the one on 7th ave. that is now Barrio, been closed for months? and "guessing"? Oddly written post. -
This is a bummer! I'm still mourning the loss of Max & Moritz. That place closed, what -- like 7 years ago?
-

I guess they don't walk north much, but it does bring some hope that the post is just dead wrong.

I remember both Cucina and Max and Moritz when I first moved to the Slope. Never got to eat at either, unfortunately. The latter must have closed around 2001. Am I wrong? -
Loved Cucina but was never impressed with max and Moritz.
-
Are they closing their sandwich place too?
-
To repeat what was already said...the sandwich place is already closed.
-
+LOL! yes, both sandwich places have been closed for a while now.
-
I ate at Max & Moritz - it feels like it was in another lifetime. The place actually closed in January 2003 (seems like longer ago though). It was where Anthony's is now, on 7th Ave. near 15 St.

Yes, OTBKB *is* a little odd. And frequently annoying. But I digress...

Maybe they got the info from Chowhound - it looks to be true. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/624541
Cucina was fantastic, and Tempo will surely be missed as much. -

Great line, J0518. I see Little D finally shuttered too - maybe Little Dishes is to Applewood what Tempo is to al di la -- a worthy restaurant shadowed out by a delicious better-known heavy hitting neighbor, when there's less $$ for $$ restaurants. -
By the way, I have no problem with turning this thread into a lament for defunct Park Slope restaurants of the late 1990s.
I miss the Blah-Blah Restaurant & Lounge (Applewood space); Vaux/Vaux Bistro (Blue Ribbon Sushi space) and Sordi's Café (Cocoa Bar space). Sort of miss Bistro St. Marks & I can barely remember Mike & Tony's, but they were good too, I think. -
i SO loved blah blah....
so many good memories there.
sigh... -
blah blah WAS good - i liked the little toy soldiers and the love letters under the glass
-
i fell in love at blah blah.
it was when i had JUST moved to new york city....
he was a dancer.... -

I'm confusing Max and Moritz with Nick & Tony's, I think. Nick & Tony's was where Moutarde is now. Am I right? -
Nick & Tony's is where Moutarde is now....correct...it was very good steak.....the same owner (or maybe chef/owner) as Cucina. That space used to be a funeral parlor
-
MIKE & Tony's. NICK Russo & Sons, funeral directors. Yeah, the steak was their bread & butter. It was a steakhouse, basically.

oops...this is what happens when i read too quickly...it definitely was MIKE and Tony's...and it was good...and now I want steak
-
I am still upset upset about Snooky's.

Yeah me too. And not to bring up the old Elementi story but I went to a Bat Mitvah lunch there about 6 weeks ago and within hours I cam home really sick. Ech. -
So Tempo is def shuttered?
Little D has a sign saying they are on vacation June 1-9. I guess w won't know for sure if they are closing until the 10th. -
NOOOOOOO! This is terrible news!
Tempo has always been a solid and reliable choice for a nice meal in the Slope. It was my go-to joint for relatives from out of town as well. Damn, this really upsets me!
On the other hand, I look forward to the nail spa that will surely replace it.
