At last night's D+D session, I decided not to roll for the +1 stone of luck, since I thought our cleric needed it more. I mean, I was gunna roll for it and all, I even had the dice ready, but then I asked myself, "What Would Rich Black Girl Do?", and the answer was as plain as the morning dew on a sunny April saturday.

You are truly a prince among men.
  • D&D? Shit, me and a couple friends have been talking a lot lately about playing D&D. We just don't know and DMs. I haven't played since 6th grade. Yo, and if you hear of any Star Frontiers or Gamma World games going down let me know!

What are you, a Yazarian or something?
  • What are you, a Yazarian or something?
I'm 34 and I freely admit to wanting to relive the highlights of my boyhood. I'd even settle for TMNT or Car Wars. Schwing!

Next time I visit my parents place, I'll try to find my Star Frontiers, Gamma Wars, Car Wars, and Top Secret sets.

    Anyone like Illuminati?

Sorry for the thread hijacking... maybe a mod can split this?

We lucked out on the DM front, our group has 2 guys who can do it.

Problem with growing up is finding the same spare eight hours every week for a group of 5 adults and one man-child.

Car Wars kicked ass! I had one of the original small-plastic-case maps of the Armadillo Auto Arena.

I forget how many anti-tank guns an 18-wheeler can mount...

Ditto. I'm up for Car Wars, Illuminati. Anyone into Diplomacy?

I'm curious as to which one of you is considered the man-child!?!
  • I'm not familiar with the Illuminati and Diplomacy games. What are those about?
  • liftandcut wrote: I'm not familiar with the Illuminati and Diplomacy games. What are those about?
I've never played Diplomacy (insert joke about battles with PS stroller moms here), but Illuminati is a card-based world domination game. It's not like Magic or Pokemon with the cards- you use them to build a power structure that attempts to control other cards. Dice are used to determine "combat." This is kind of an oversimplification, but it really only takes a short time to get acquainted with the rules.

Here's a link to the official Illuminati website (made by Steve Jackson games, the makers of Car Wars). It has a downloadable pdf of the rules and some sample cards.

  • Illuminati is so much fun.

I like when I use the Argentinian Nazis as a catspaw for the Shriners, and with the help of orbital mind control lasers seize control of the CIA.
  • In college, I used to totally piss off my Texan friend by using New York to take control of Texas.
  • Ok, yeah, I think I've heard of Illuminati. Anybody ever play Steal the Brain? I think that's what it's called. Fun fun fun.

Diplomacy is a board-based & role-playing world domination game. Takes 7 players and all day. Never ever try it with friends, family, or loved-ones you wish to retain.

  • I feel like Shogun can get that way too.

    Not me! Not me!

    Okay. It's me.
  • Aw, man!

    D&D
Car Wars (Sunday Drivers, Truck Stop)
    Ogre (GEV, Shockwave)
    Top Secret
    Champions
    Squad Leader (COI, COD, GIAOV)

I haven't played any of this stuff in years and years, but it was great.

Finding a good DM is always the killer. Anyone out there?

My friend would always buy the stupid heavy rockets, I'd always blast him for it, and he'd always get lucky with one. I gotta try to find my stuff, but...outlook not good.

nerdnyc would be a good place to start.
  • my friends are all into settlers of catan.. anyone else? i, however, like to make the drinks & snacks...

There was some discussion of this a few months ago. Daniel and Isa expressed interest. I've never played but wanted to learn. We tried to set up games at Soda to coincide with happy hour a few times, but it kept not happening. We could try again...
  • I'm definitely in for Illuminati, haven't played that since high school.

Would also be down for TMNT, TFOS, or even some Cyberpunk (laugh all you want about jacking in, but Friday Night Firefight (FNFF) is still the damn finest realistic combat system ever).
  • I used to play TMNT, (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) long before it was that dumb cartoon, it was a cool game, I loved Dungeons and dragons but actually loved reading the weird books more than playing some times, anyone still got a copy of Demons and Demi-Gods? wacky stuff. any one play "beyond the supernatural" or "Rifts" weird ones there... spooky. or how about the cartoon game called "Toon"? that was goofy... you had things like Chutzupah points. Those were fun times, and also times of lots of spare time to invest playing these games, they trick you into thinking you are accomplishing things, I got into computer RPGs in high school and was spending all my available time on the computer, " Wow! I've got a 24th level Paladin with his own dragon! I'm invincible!" somehow no one else cared.....sigh.....memories.......

You mean Deities and Demi-Gods?

  • You mean Deities and Demi-Gods?
    I sooooooo stand corrected.

Leave it to the minister of propoganda to out nerd me...
  • Not the kind of games you all mean, but still very amusing.
  • What about computer games? I'm all over Halo 1 for PC.. even Quake 2.

DH should set up a 24/7 Halo server!
  • we should like run a wow guild or something.
