Fox TV wants you to marry a stranger — Brooklynian

Fox TV wants you to marry a stranger

Just read this- they're developing a reality series where the bride's family gets to pick a guy, couple walk down the isle, she says 'I do', then she removes her BLINDFOLD to see who she married! Eeek!

Makes it easy in some ways though...none of that pesky dating bullshit to go through and you're guaranteed a husband at the end of the episode! Yaaaaay! Who's gonna sign on?

  • and gays can't marry because marriage is so sacred?

this shit pisses me off (and not only am I not gay, but I don't have any great desire to be married)

  • The reality shows pander to the lowest common denominator of the public. Makes me feel the need for a lobotomy. Bachelor, Bachlorette, Rock of Love - bleh.

Personally, I believe that the whole marriage issue is based on fairy tale - nothing whatsoever connected to reality. Unfortunately, people are being brainwashed into buying into this multi-million dollar industry and the ancillary unreasonable expectations. Are those that are NOT married missing something? Does a wedding ring equate to a gold medal? Is marriage a contest? Its not like being picked last for basketball.

Perhaps marriage was a viable option in the days when life expectancy did not exceed 35 or when women had limited economic options. Not so sure now.

For those that want to enter the institution (gay or straight) - more power to you. It should be an available option for those that want to commit to each other - pomp and circumstance optional. Personally, I would like to see a seven option to renew written in as a clause . . .

  • If marriage is so sacred why is it being trivialized into a reality show? Instead of protesting gay marriages why aren't people protesting this kind of drivel? Why aren't they protesting divorce lawyers? THATS what is really destroying the "sanctity" of marriage.

  • They did something similar to this about 8 years ago (or so). The details are fuzzy because I didn't see the show but I believe they flew all these women to Vegas, dressed them up in pouffy wedding dresses and then at the end of a 2-hour live broadcast, the groom-to-be picked a woman and they were married on the spot. I didn't see it but the groom ended up having been prosecuted for beating his ex-girlfriend and the bride was an army nurse. She filed for an anullment, I think. (She said she had entered the contest to get a free trip to Vegas.)

What was the name of that show?

  • That was Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire, I think.
