New design at Atlantic Yards

A 20,000 seat arena is still a lot of humans invading the area for an event. The traffic would be pretty horrific.

While I was a supporter of Atlantic Yards, more or less, I have to say that I'm now convinced that Ratner is trying to hoodwink us into accepting another piece of architectural drek in his already monumental corner of sh*t. If you read the NYTimes piece, you saw that some who have seen the new model have described it as looking like an aircraft hangar. The architects also build Conseco Field:



Not _horribly_bad, but not quite cutting edge architecture either. I'm very worried.

Note that the new plans will require city approval. I urge everyone to voice their opinion to the City Planning Commission. Write letters. Show up at the hearings. They will listen.

Gehry is an arrogant SOB, just like the pompous Paul Goldberger who promotes the infernally intertwined goals of design and capital at the expense of communities.

I honestly cannot fathom the stupidity of people who still support this project.

The potential of Gehry high design was the only redeeming feature of this project, and that was only a visual salve on a disaster. Now we're back to a pos like Metrotech, obscuring the clocktower, casting deep shadow over Ft Greene, and clogging up an already messy dense octopus of an intersection. Phooey.

this awful thing cannot possibly be built in this neighborhood.

A new design by the firm Ellerbe Becket has no such ambitions. A colossal, spiritless box, it would fit more comfortably in a cornfield than at one of the busiest intersections of a vibrant metropolis.
