Brooklyn Bread
Cafe`Bakery. "It's Not Just Bread".........
Who knew. Went there yesterday and much to my surprise they had a lot of other things besides bread.
They serve breakfast..eggs, frittatas, pancakes etc. Their bagels aren't bad, large, light and airy. They have sandwiches and wraps that sound great, salads that also sound very good, veg. specialty sandwiches, focaccia pizza, homemade pasta, cafe section, homemade desserts: Italian cookies, cheesecakes, pies, tarts, pastries and cakes.
Couple of tables inside and out and I saw one waitress. The menu says it's not just bread but I didn't see it on their sign. They also do catering and bake on the premises.

How is their bread? Is the other food good?
I'm eating a very fresh soft multi grain bread now, shaped like the body of an armadillo, from Trader Joe's and it's very good. The freshness is key. -
I had cake from there yesterday--a cannoli cake?? It was fabulous.

While i think all their pasteries and sandwiches are really good, you can't call those bagels. they're giant, round shaped bread in different flavors. they should just call it Bread Shaped Like a Bagel.

We got a couple of different types of rolls. The egg rolls were very good some of the others too large and some too chewy. Haven't tried the loafs of bread. The bagels were huge. Haven't tried any of the other food as I was not expecting that when I went in. I will go back though and try some other things.

Exactly

Brooklyn bread is my fave bakery in the hood- their loafs are always fresh and really reasonably priced. I am a fan.

Their chocolate bread is to die for.
-
Breakfasts are good and they open super super early (like, 6am?). I happen to like their bagels, but it's already been well-established that I am not a New York bagel snob.

I first got exposed to Brooklyn Bread from their Bay Ridge "branch" Paneantico...I think the original "Royal Crown" is in Staten Island. I think they are all run by 1 family.

But I agree, great place. The cannoli are fantastic, as are the pignoli cookies, the sfogliatellas and the pasticiottis. And the sandwiches are enormous. -

Their cannoli and oven baked breads are great but if I want a sandwich I'll go next door to Pollio.

Wait, Brooklyn Bread is the same family as Royal Crown? Royal Crown in B'hurst?

I believe the Brooklyn Bread guys are either cousins or brothers of the guy who started Royal Crown in SI. I asked the owner/manager when I first went in last year and recall him saying something to the effect. I think he was more stunned that someone from Park Slope had actually been to Staten Island.
I have not been to the Royal Crown in Bensonhurst so I can't say if it's the same. Check the menu...Royal Crown in SI, Paneantico in Bay Ridge and the 2 Brooklyn Breads all have the exact same menu and baked goods avaialable.
