where to get an MRI

there's a radiology place on 13th Street between 6th/7th ave. I just got a CT scan today. I'm not sure if they do MRI too, but this is the second time I used them (CT scan when I banged my head in Feb.). The women in the office went above and beyond to help me sort some insurance BS. (718) 832-9729

If you can stand a regular MRI do that instead of the open, you'll get better images.
Do I just go to that Stand-up MRI place on 5th or are there other options(so I can see who takes my United Healthcare)?
Does United Healthcare have a website that lists providers? My insurance co does. -
Flexi, that place does MRIs and takes my insurance. Thanks!

cool. two of the radiologist are also easy on the eyes

Haha...I knew I could count on the boards to realize that is an important feature in our docs.

They girl on the phone was very nice. This was really the last thing I wanted to hear from the doc (seeing as he told me at the past appointments that this is the worst case scenario for me). Looks like I'll have to waste my summer stuck at home

Didn't your doctor refer you to one?

I hear ya....After 6 weeks on crutches and in a cast, ortho just told me another 6 weeks with this thing + PT 2-3x/week

It's a long story but I'm using a doc on the UES due the circumstances of my first needing and orthopedist and I don't want more appointments around there so they just said to get an MRI wherever I wanted. Plus the women in his office are super bitchy so I don't talk to them more than I have to.
I kind of thought they would just send me up the street to a hospital or somewhere, but nope. I just want to get it done to find out why after 3 months(!) of pain and staying off of my feet it's not "healing the way we would hope". -
um, one hour before my appointment they called to cancel b/c their machine is broken
-
what? that sucks
-
I don't remember the name, but when I had an MRI years ago, I used a place that provided car service both ways (I just tipped the drive). If it helps, it was right near Outback (and they took my insurance so it was perfect
-
as in Outback Steakhouse? I didn't think those were around here.
I'd really rather stick close to home for time reasons, plus I always fear ending up with (worse) injuries when riding with cab drivers here (I was actually in a cab that was rearended by another cab. The offending driver pulled around afterwards and yelled and flipped my driver off!) -
did they tell you when the machine will be fixed?

If you're claustrophic, you may want to get a prescription for valium. That's what everyone told me when I couldn't do the closed one. My doc gave me a prescription for only 4 valium (geez, doc!) and I ended up taking all 4 in 30 minute increments (before and during) because I was sooo not relaxed. I ended up falling asleep in the machine. ;-)

The called and left a msg around 8pm saying I can come in next week.
D123, thanks for the advice but I've never had a problem with them other than falling asleep and not staying still enough b/c of sleep movement. I like alone time

I prefer Alprazolam (Xanax) to Diazepam (Valium) works faster and wears off quicker

not super-local, but fyi for future searchers, i had a very good experience getting an MRI at NYU hospital ("Faculty Practice Radiology").

In case anyone is considering using the place on 13th St, I did finally get in when the machine was working. Every staff member I encountered was really nice and the place seemed pretty efficient. Plus while waiting (maybe 10 minutes, at most) to go back for my MRI, I heard the office gals dealing with insurance and doc referral problems for other patients (as opposed to telling the patients they had the wrong forms, etc.)
